Professor Yao and most of the class had their eyes on the uninvited Doggy.
Jiang Yu and Xiao Xiao, meanwhile, both looked at Zheng Qing.
The two of them knew where Doggy had come from. Jiang Yu especially had seen with her own eyes that afternoon, beneath the Cat Fruit Tree, how Doggy had turned into a shadow and vanished into the grass.
Like them, Zheng Qing wore a puzzled expression.
"Whose dog is this?!" Professor Yao raised his voice.
The classroom fell silent. No one was willing to admit to having anything to do with the strange Doggy. A few glances swept back and forth over Zheng Qing, but the young government-funded student kept a straight face from beginning to end, showing not the slightest sign that he knew it.
"Don't make me take it to the School Labor Committee for confirmation." The professor's tone grew a little heavier, making the already oppressive atmosphere in the classroom even more stifling.
After a moment, the classroom remained silent.
The students' gazes furtively shifted between Doggy and the professor. Doggy seemed to sense the ominous air as well. Its once-cheerfully wagging tail curled beneath its rear, while its two little black eyes darted from side to side, looking utterly innocent.
Professor Yao finally lost his patience—he could hardly let a baffling little dog disrupt the class's regular meeting. He removed his pipe from his mouth and tapped the lectern with its bowl.
"Ge Zhi Tan Xi!"
Several green streaks burst from the lectern, circling through the air like venomous snakes that had scented a delicious meal before lunging, one after another, at the little dog in the corner of the classroom.
Zheng Qing had no time to react. He could only see several flashes of green light streak past his eyes.
