These Forward Bases were not large.

But they had everything they needed.

Around the perimeter stood a ring of grayish-white stone walls three meters high. The walls had been built from local stone, and lines of Guardian Spell inscriptions had been carved across them in rough strokes. The Wizards stationed in these camps would carve a couple of lines of spells onto the walls every day when they were bored or before going on patrol, partly to pass the time, and partly to reinforce the walls.

Set into the walls every dozen steps or so was a withered skull the size of a fist. They were Ogre skulls tanned with magic. They were "extremely sensitive" to foreign objects intruding into their territory, so Wizards often used them as sentries in wilderness Hunting Team camps. This was also one reason Magical Creatures like Ogres had been able to proliferate to a certain extent in the Wizarding World. A single Ogre skull had limited range and strength as a sentry, but when multiple skulls were linked together by spell formulas, they could form a "tribal-level" warning array. It was more than enough to cover this little camp, and could even extend the warning range several hundred meters beyond it.

Unlike the stones used for the walls, these skulls had all been brought from beyond the domain.

The Wizard in charge of the camp had to submit a report and apply to Jiang Yu to receive them.

At each of the four corners of the stone wall surrounding the camp stood a small octagonal Wizard Tower. In the octagonal pavilion at the top of each tower floated a fist-sized ball of light, giving off a warm, steady yellow glow that covered the entire camp.
