Matthew frowned, a trace of confusion appearing on his face. "Don't monsters dislike environments filled with the aura of order? How could it possibly go deep into the heartland of the world..."
The defensive line the wizards had built around the regions of the Xuanhuang Small World where the earth veins had already been organized was not actually very sturdy. There was a Forward Camp and a Wizard Tower roughly every fifty kilometers, and the camps were connected only by a thin palisade wall. Forget the thick-skinned monsters—even a rabbit, if it got worked up, could smash through it.
So this defensive line served more as an early-warning system.
It was not hard to understand. One wizard was responsible for dozens of kilometers of defensive line, and without three heads and six arms, if he watched the front he could not watch his rear. Without auxiliary troops, there was simply no way to keep an eye on everything—Gargoyles easily went out of control and could not be too far from a wizard; Elves were too fragile; Golden Crow Wood Treants were not fully developed, and their intelligence was only a tiny bit better than that of monsters. None of them were suitable choices for auxiliary troops.

One was keeping an eye on the activities of the monsters outside the defensive line, out in the wilds, to prevent them from gathering on a large scale, while also monitoring changes in the earth veins and earth qi in the unorganized areas. The other was preventing any truly stubborn monsters from crossing the boundary and causing trouble.
