She was back to being Poseidon at full strength.
Jiang Yu saw Little Fox's reaction and understood at once. Quietly, she breathed a sigh of relief.
When Hermione had sent Ragdoll Fox back earlier, she had given Jiang Yu quite a scare. Whenever the little thing had sneaked out before, she had spent at least a week roaming around. In nearly ten years, she had never been sent back early. Fortunately, Hermione's letter mentioned no mishap, which put Jiang Yu somewhat at ease.
Even so, Jiang Yu had tested her. Only when she saw Little Fox return to her usual self did she finally relax.
"Sounds like you know quite a bit about the Monster King."
Jiang Yu gave her a faint, knowing smile. When Poseidon's expression abruptly changed, she offered her no chance to explain. With a light wave of her hand, she said, "Well said. Now get back to your homework!"
Little Fox opened her mouth.
She wanted to keep talking about the far more interesting subject of the Monster King, but she was afraid Mother Jiang would ask why she knew so much. After a moment's struggle, she obediently went back to her homework.
She knew which was worse: a little boredom now or a long stretch of it later.
Jiang Yu watched Poseidon return to the desk in the corner of the hall.
Her smile faded.
Her gaze fell on the letter on the table before her. After a brief hesitation, she looked toward the pen rack.
A silver-white Feather Pen sprang off the rack and plunged headfirst into the ink bottle. It drank its fill with a series of gurgles, then hovered obediently in midair. At the same time, a sheet of stationery flew out of a drawer and settled beneath it.
