Splash, splash!
Death did not answer the Witch's question. Perhaps the answer involved some secret, perhaps Death did not know it either, or perhaps Death had simply lost interest in answering questions. In any case, Death tugged the chain again, dragging the Witch across that expanse of deathly white and continuing toward the dazzling world of light at the end of the darkness.
"Where is that place ahead?"
The Witch seemed not to notice Death's coldness and continued pressing on, tossing out one question after another. "What are you taking me there for? Do you know who I am? If you return me to my True Self, my True Self can definitely grant you one wish—"
"You're only an avatar. Don't make wishes for your True Self so casually."
An abrupt yet familiar voice sounded beside the little jade person's ear. Almost at the same time, the deathly white before her seemed to flip away like a page, revealing the pitch-black space beneath it.
It was not the darkness Jiang Yu had felt when she first entered the Void Cavity world, nor was it the color of ending on Death's robe, as though it could halt time, stop motion, and freeze everything.
It was another kind of "lively" black.
Jiang Yu had never imagined that black could be described as lively.
Yet the blackness before her was like a babbling clear spring beneath the earth, radiating a refreshing coolness and comfort amid the darkness. In the blink of an eye, it seemed to wash away completely the cold, clammy sensation that had wrapped around her since entering the Void Cavity, like long worms clinging to her body.
She widened her eyes and looked toward the voice.
She saw a Black Cat.
That was not easy.
The background was utterly
