Poseidon's head tilted to one side.
She rolled off the windowsill and onto the floor.
Little Jade came to her senses and looked down, a hint of surprise on her face.
"Did you just fall asleep?"
Falling asleep somewhere this high up—she really was a Legend's descendant!
"Did I fall asleep?"
Poseidon picked herself up off the floor and scratched her head, looking bewildered. Her voice was uncertain. "Maybe... It felt like I just had a nightmare... Mother Jiang turned into a tiger and slapped me in the face. It gave me a fright... I ducked backward and rolled onto the floor."
As though recalling that scene, she couldn't help wrapping her arms around herself and shivering. She swiftly looked up, down, left, and right, and only after confirming that the enormous White Tiger wasn't nearby did she quietly let out a small sigh of relief.
But upon hearing what she said,
Little Jade couldn't help raising her eyebrows.
"Oh, then it looks like you weren't asleep."
She withdrew her gaze and looked back up at the sky, her tone calm. "I saw that slap from my true self just now, too. It came right at my face... But I knew it wasn't real, so I didn't dodge."
"What do you mean? Mother Jiang is coming back?"
Little Fox's ears shot up through her hair, and she immediately looked toward her desk, apparently weighing whether to sit back down first and pretend to be a good student for a while.
Then she remembered that slap.
Realizing she could no longer pretend to be a good student, she gave a small, disappointed sigh. After a pause, something odd occurred to her. "...How did you know that slap wasn't real?"
