Jiang Yu had reaped a rich harvest at World's End.
Like an army that had won a great victory and acquired far too much loot, what had once been lean and efficient had become bloated and cumbersome. Once anything grew large enough, it lost its flexibility-even consciousness.
Many wizards knew that the Great Beings in the Deep Starry Sky took months or years to turn over a single thought. A brief nap could see the world transformed beyond recognition. That was why many higher-order beings had to subdivide a single thought endlessly into projections or avatars to communicate freely with low-level wizards.
Jiang Yu had not quite reached that point.
But her consciousness had absorbed so much nourishment from the laws at World's End that, compared with her original body, it was now like a genuine Erudite Giant. Coming back down as easily as she had gone up had become exceptionally difficult.
That difficulty took two forms.
First, it was very difficult for her enormous consciousness to leave World's End. Like a lead ball rolling across a taut sheet of thin cloth, wherever it rolled, it would upset the cloth's balance. She had gained tremendous benefits here, and was therefore under tremendous constraints. To leave, she needed to find a suitable way that would not disrupt the balance.
The other difficulty was her body. An enormous consciousness could hardly return directly to such a small vessel. If raising her consciousness to World's End had been like pumping water out of a bucket through a narrow pipe, then now the bucket and pipe remained unchanged, but the bucketful of water had become a lake. Neither fitting it back into the original bucket nor "pumping" it through that little pipe could be accomplished in one go.
