Red Fur and Green Fur

"Achoo!"

A mouse wearing a Green Vest sneezed hard.

"Achoo! Achoo!!"

Another mouse in a Green Vest stood beside its companion and, as though it had caught the contagion, sneezed twice as well.

"Yawn..."

A third mouse in a Red Vest stretched lazily and yawned. Then it lifted its eyelids, glanced at the companions before it who were sneezing one after another, and drawled in a sluggish tone, "Numbers Thirty-Three and Thirty-Four... please keep your queue slips safe. Respond promptly when your number is called. We're pressed for time, and if you miss your turn, there won't be another chance."

Clearly, the mouse in the Red Vest was very familiar with this speech. Even as it repeated it in that lazy voice, it did not pause in the slightest. As it spoke, it pushed two long, narrow slips of paper to the end of the desk.

The mice in Green Vests wiped their noses, respectfully accepted the slips, then turned around and headed toward the waiting area.

Behind them, the mouse in the Red Vest shook the brass bell at the corner of the desk and shouted, "Number Eleven Green Fur, Number Eleven Green Fur! Please follow the assistant mouse officer to the office! Number Eleven Green Fur!"

"I'm coming, I'm coming! Please wait!!" A scrawny mouse in a Green Vest came stumbling over from nearby, nearly crashing into the two companions passing in front of it.

"I'm terribly sorry! Please forgive me!" As the scrawny mouse ran forward, it somehow turned around and gave a deep ninety-degree bow in apology. Its long tail swept a graceful arc through the air, lashing the smooth wall of the corridor with sharp smacks.

"Watch it! Damaging public property means triple compensation!" the Red Vest mouse warned loudly. Then it craned its head
