History

Intervention on Su Yi’s Behalf

The title is introduced when Su Yi’s attendants identify him as the son of the Fire Kingdom’s Marquis of Zhenyuan. Su Yi subsequently attacks Shi Teng with the marquis’s Sun-Shooting Divine Bow, but loses the weapon to him 24.

Su Lie arrives as Shi Teng prepares to kill Su Yi. He redirects the bow’s firebird and retrieves the weapon. Initially concerned that Shi Teng might belong to the Stone Kingdom’s powerful Shi clan, he questions the youth’s origins; Shi Teng answers that he comes from Stone Village in the Great Wilderness 25.

Young Master Golden Spider dismisses any connection to the Stone Kingdom and urges Su Lie to retaliate. Although Su Lie rebukes his son for provoking a stronger opponent, he attacks Shi Teng himself after the youth insults the Su family and Demon Spirit Lake 26.

First Battle with Shi Teng

Su Lie initially dominates through his Inscription Realm strength. He wounds Shi Teng, takes his Dark Heavy Ruler, and injures Shi Hao when the younger brother intervenes. Shi Teng’s newly acquired Azure Dragon Arm and third heavenly grotto eventually force Su Lie to defend with both hands 26 27.

After Shi Teng activates a temporary Ten-Cave Heaven Realm enhancement, Elder Chu encloses the combatants in the Soul-Suppressing Bell to contain their destructive clash. Both suffer injuries, but Su Lie continues attacking. Huo Ling’er orders him to stop as Shi Teng counters with the Xingtian Axe, severing his right hand 28.

Revenge and Settlement

When Shi Teng returns to Vermilion Bird City, the one-armed Su Lie blocks his path and demands revenge. He fights without holding back, using the God-Demon Fist and Great Strength Vajra Cannon to overwhelm Shi Teng’s defenses and treasure weapons 41 42.

Shi Teng reverses the battle with the Heavenly Saint Abyss-Splitting Halberd, piercing and crippling Su Lie’s remaining arm. Su Nantian, the Su family ancestor, intervenes before the finishing blow and orders Su Lie to withdraw 42.

The dispute escalates into a battle between Su Nantian and Shi Teng’s summoned Sword Saint. The Fire Emperor intervenes, acknowledges the Su family’s wrongdoing, and negotiates an end to the conflict. Shi Teng receives the Eight Fierce Swords as compensation, and the emperor forbids further trouble 43 44.

Holder’s Personality

Su Lie is protective of his only son despite openly criticizing Su Yi’s weakness. His concern for status shapes his decisions: he hesitates when Shi Teng might have powerful clan backing, invokes the offense against his family and sect to justify attacking a junior, and later insists that killing Shi Teng is necessary to preserve his standing in the Fire Kingdom 25 26 28.

His first battle begins with deliberate condescension—he keeps one hand behind his back while attempting to toy with Shi Teng. After losing his right hand, his hostility becomes an uncompromising desire for revenge 27 41 42.

Holder’s Abilities & Skills

Inscription Realm Cultivation

Su Lie’s cultivation allows him to exert restraining pressure and overpower lower-realm opponents 26 27.

  • Immobilizes Shi Teng with pressure described as resembling a hundred-thousand-jin weight 26.
  • Catches a powerful Dark Heavy Ruler attack with one hand and wrests the weapon away 27.
  • Uses the Inscription Realm’s capacity to inscribe personal symbols within the body rather than relying entirely on beast and bird runes 42.

Great Strength Vajra Bear Arts

The Su family carries a trace of the primordial Great Strength Vajra Bear bloodline and possesses its inherited treasure art 42.

  • Great Strength Vajra Palm — An enormous palm attack whose pressure prevents nearby people from moving 28.
  • God-Demon Fist — Produces a mountain-sized phantom fist; knocks away the Heaven-Flipping Seal and damages Shi Teng’s Qilin Arm scales 42.
  • Great Strength Vajra Cannon — Condenses and fires a golden energy sphere over a meter across. Its explosion devastates an area within a five-li radius 42.
  • Limit — His defenses cannot withstand the Heavenly Saint Abyss-Splitting Halberd’s piercing attack 42.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sun-Shooting Divine Bow — Su Lie’s bow, initially wielded by Su Yi. It produces fiery bird-shaped arrows and is reputed to shoot down pure-blooded creatures. In Su Lie’s hands, it manifests a Vermilion Bird phantom around him 24 26.
  • Dark Heavy Ruler, temporarily seized — Taken from Shi Teng during their first battle; Shi Teng possesses it again in later encounters 27 31.

Relationships

  • Su Yi — Only son. Su Lie saves him from Shi Teng while rebuking him for provoking someone stronger 25 26.
  • Venerable Golden Spider — Master at Demon Spirit Lake 26.
  • Young Master Golden Spider — Encourages Su Lie to attack Shi Teng and defend Demon Spirit Lake’s prestige 26.
  • Su Nantian — Su family ancestor who saves Su Lie from a lethal halberd strike and orders him home 42 43.
  • Shi Teng — Opponent who severs his right hand and later cripples his left arm 28 42.
  • Shi Hao — Intervenes to protect Shi Teng; Su Lie injures and repels him during the first battle 26 27.
  • Fire Emperor — Mediates the final settlement and prohibits the Su family from continuing the dispute 43 44.

Legacy

  • Defeating the Marquis of Zhenyuan makes Shi Teng recognizable throughout Vermilion Bird City; a bun seller even uses the youth’s victory to attract customers 41.
  • Auction attendees later identify Shi Teng specifically as the youth who crippled Su Lie’s arms and fought the Su family ancestor 46.
