Shi Hou had not put away his Gray Blade.
The blade pressed against the fifth lion head's neck, slicing through several tough strands of golden mane. A bead of crimson blood seeped along its edge and trickled down the golden fur like a thin red thread.
He turned his head, sweeping a cold gaze toward the edge of the pit.
Huo Ling'er stamped her feet in panic, the hem of her red dress whipping into a blur.
"Why?"
Shi Hou's voice held not the slightest fluctuation of emotion.
"He's the Nine Spirit King's most beloved grandson! The Nine-Headed Lion lineage fiercely protects its own!" Huo Ling'er's pretty face paled, and her voice rose. "Kill him in this Secret Realm, and that old lion will go absolutely mad once we leave! He'll overturn a hundred thousand miles of the Great Wilderness! Even the Human Emperor won't be able to protect you then!"
Shi Hou raised an eyebrow.
His gaze leisurely swept over the five remaining lion heads beneath his feet, one by one.
"I've already chopped off four of his heads."
He sounded perfectly justified, without a shred of guilt.
"This grudge is already tied into a dead knot. Rather than wait for his grandfather to come bite me, I might as well chop them all off now, eat every last scrap, and destroy the evidence. Once I crap him out, he'll be fertilizer. What's his grandfather going to do, dig through the dirt?"
At the bottom of the pit, the Nine-Headed Lion shuddered violently.
Earth-shattering terror erupted in his five remaining pairs of eyes.
This dark-skinned human wasn't bluffing at all. When he had inspected those five heads, his gaze had clearly been tracing the alignment of the bones in each neck. This brute was figuring out which joint to
