Using their webs to find their way, the three moved through the little house, retracing the route they had taken in until they finally escaped that eerie house of darkness.
Seeing the sun again nearly brought Miles Morales to tears. If Gwen Stacy had not been standing beside him, he might have burst into tears and started howling right there.
"I swear, unless I absolutely have to, I'm never setting foot in another place like that damned house again!"
Still unable to settle his badly shaken nerves, Miles Morales spat out the complaint.
For once, Gwen Stacy agreed with him. Normally, she took every opportunity to poke good-natured fun at the male Spider-Men for the ways they fell short of her, but after hearing what Miles Morales said, she simply nodded.
Her face was still pale with fright. After Peter had entered the house, he had gone completely silent, and Gwen Stacy had genuinely feared she would have to watch Peter die in front of her again.
Peter, meanwhile, kept his head lowered. He had not said a word since leaving the house and, unusually, had not joined in the Spider-Men's customary post-brush-with-death banter to relieve the tension.
"Peter."
Gwen Stacy called his name with concern. He raised his head slightly, his downcast eyes betraying no particular emotion, then quickly lowered it again.
Putting herself in his shoes, Gwen Stacy considered his situation. Peter might not have been as frightened as the two of them. Perhaps he was feeling low because he had not found this world's Aunt May inside the house. But in this eerie world, with not a soul on the streets, where else could Aunt May have gone if she was not at home?
"This place is too creepy. I think we should leave for now."
