The Golden Crow sank in the west, and the Jade Rabbit rose in the east.
The river called time surged ever onward, never stopping for anyone, not even for a second.
More than three years passed in the blink of an eye.
At the outer border of the Far North.
A small town stood at the foot of a great mountain.
The towering mountain blocked the cold winds sweeping down from the north. Though temperatures remained low, they were barely within the range in which humans could function. This town was also highly unusual: its several thousand residents, including those working in service jobs, all possessed soul power. That was an astonishing proportion. Even Mingdu and Shrek City had large populations of ordinary people. After all, what lordly soul master would wash dishes, sweep streets, or unclog sewers? Even the work-study students in the original story only cleaned inside their school.
A large group of soul masters holed up somewhere so remote clearly could not be normal people. More precisely, this was a nest of Evil Soul Masters, a Holy Spirit Cult stronghold called "Slaughter City."
Two figures, one in black and one in white, stepped into the valley.
"Slaughter City?" Gui Mei looked at the blood-red lettering on the wooden sign, a trace of reminiscence surfacing in his eyes.
"Those beasts." Yue Guan angrily raised his hand and shattered the sign from a distance.
Putting that name here was nothing short of an insult!
The old Slaughter City had been a prison where the fallen and criminals slaughtered one another, a place one could enter but never leave. This new Slaughter City, however, had become a paradise where Evil Soul Masters indulged themselves and hid from the authorities, coming and going whenever they pleased.
The two entered the valley.
