History
Yan Family Castle
Wang Chan attended the Treasure Grabbing Assembly as a guest elder of Yan Family Castle. During the Ghost Spirit Sect and Yan Family Castle’s massacre of the assembled cultivators, he pursued Dong Xuan’er, whom he believed was likely Old Devil Yunlu’s daughter. She sought protection behind Lu Shang, bringing the two men into conflict 11.
Lu Shang displayed a Spirit Controlling Sect guest elder token, struck Wang Chan with a crimson attack, and threatened to kill him despite his two Core Formation guards. He then threw the unconscious Dong Xuan’er toward Wang Chan and escaped. Humiliated, Wang Chan ordered an investigation into Lu Shang’s claimed affiliation, offered a magical treasure as payment for his death, and placed him on his Must-Kill List 11.
Spirit Mine Battle
By their next encounter, Wang Chan had discovered that Lu Shang was not a Spirit Controlling Sect elder and had killed one of that sect’s Core Formation elders. Finding him escorting Chen Qiaoqian out of a spirit mine, Wang Chan ordered his followers to seize her and sent two Core Formation cultivators against him 16.
Lu Shang killed the pursuing disciples and destroyed both elders with his Silver Frost Dragon Halberd. Wang Chan activated a Mountain-Shaking Talisman during the battle, gravely wounding Lu Shang. Several defensive magical treasures obtained after their first confrontation blocked Lu Shang’s retaliation of more than a hundred sword-qi streaks, leaving Wang Chan with only slight injuries but substantial spiritual-power depletion 16.
Wang Chan then sent low-level cultivators forward to buy time for a second powerful talisman. Lu Shang escaped the blast through repeated uses of Blood Thunder Escape. When Zhong Wu congratulated Wang Chan on supposedly killing him, Wang Chan slapped and kicked the subordinate, rejected the claim, and ordered a search 17.
Failed Interception and Lasting Enmity
A month later, Lu Shang infiltrated a Ghost Spirit Sect-controlled mine to escape through its Teleportation Formation. Wang Chan ordered hundreds of cultivators to destroy the formation while four Core Formation cultivators charged it. He also supplied a nearby elder with a strange blood-colored blade 17.
The formation activated before the attackers could stop Lu Shang, throwing back the blade-wielding elder. A nearby Core Formation cultivator restrained Wang Chan from charging forward himself. Lu Shang escaped to the Chaotic Star Sea, but continued to resent Wang Chan and planned to settle accounts with the Ghost Spirit Sect after reaching Nascent Soul 17 26.
Personality
Wang Chan is proud of his position and reacts violently to humiliation. Lu Shang’s threats particularly enraged him because even his own sect’s Nascent Soul elders did not normally address him that way. His response was to investigate Lu Shang and authorize his killing regardless of any Spirit Controlling Sect connection 11.
His anger also affects his treatment of subordinates and battlefield decisions. He forced a reluctant elder to leave his protective position and join the fight, assaulted Zhong Wu for premature congratulations, and nearly rushed at Lu Shang himself during the failed teleportation interception 16 17.
He nevertheless takes precautions against known threats: after their first encounter, he acquired additional defensive treasures, and he correctly refused to assume that an apparently empty blast site meant Lu Shang was dead 16 17.
Abilities & Skills
Cultivation and Combat Limits
Wang Chan remains a Foundation Establishment cultivator throughout his documented confrontations with Lu Shang. His most dangerous attacks depend on powerful talismans rather than a demonstrated cultivation breakthrough 11 16 17.
- His defensive treasures withstand Lu Shang’s massed sword qi, but maintaining that protection drains his spiritual power 16.
- After that depletion, he struggles to activate his second talisman and needs time provided by attacking disciples 17.
Command Authority
His status allows him to direct both low-level disciples and Core Formation elders 16 17.
- Orders groups of disciples to capture opponents or delay Lu Shang 16 17.
- Overrides an elder’s reluctance to abandon his protective duties 16.
- Mobilizes hundreds of cultivators against the Teleportation Formation 17.
- Benefits from guards who fear the consequences of allowing a Nascent Soul cultivator’s son to be harmed 16.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Mountain-Shaking Talisman — Produces an attack comparable in power to a Nascent Soul cultivator’s strike; gravely wounds Lu Shang and ends his demonic transformation 16.
- Unnamed second talisman — Judged by Lu Shang to be no weaker than the first. Its explosion forces him to escape with Blood Thunder Escape 17.
- Several defensive magical treasures — Obtained from the sect master after Wang Chan’s humiliation at Yan Family Castle; block more than a hundred sword-qi attacks 16.
- Blood-colored blade — Lent to a Core Formation cultivator during the teleportation interception. Its wielder becomes surrounded by black demonic qi and develops glowing red eyes; the blade falls when the formation repels him 17.
Relationships
- Lu Shang — Mortal enemy. Their feud begins at Yan Family Castle and ultimately forces Lu Shang to leave the Heavenly South 11 16 17.
- Unnamed father — A Nascent Soul cultivator whose potential wrath makes Wang Chan’s guards especially protective of him 11 16.
- Dong Xuan’er — Target of his pursuit at the Treasure Grabbing Assembly. Wang Chan identifies her as likely being Old Devil Yunlu’s daughter 11.
- Zhong Wu — Subordinate whom Wang Chan strikes and kicks after he mistakenly celebrates Lu Shang’s death 17.
