The magnificent palace did not feel excessively extravagant. Its classical elegance carried the weight of a long and rich history.
Although the current rulers of the Heaven Dou Empire were not descended from the imperial family that had ruled the Heaven Dou Empire ten thousand years ago, they had inherited almost all of that empire's legacy, including Heaven Dou City and its imperial palace. They had always styled themselves its rightful successors.
By contrast, the imperial family of the Dou Ling Empire, direct descendants of the old Heaven Dou imperial line, had thrown away their weapons and armor during the war that split the empire. They had ultimately fled to distant Lingdou City in the east and established the Dou Ling Empire there.
Vina always presented herself as gentle and approachable in public. Tonight, dressed in a luxurious, bright yellow court gown, she carried the dignity and authority befitting a princess of the Heaven Dou Empire just as naturally.
Her silver-white hair was piled high at the back of her head and adorned with all manner of rare jewels, complementing her exquisite, flawless face and snowy, jade-like neck. Her fair arms were bare, and her hands rested crossed over her flat abdomen as she waited quietly in the courtyard outside the palace, her bearing impeccable.
Deep within the palace, two indistinct figures could just be seen conversing. The soft light of the soul guidance lamps stretched their shadows, lending the scene an even more mysterious, inscrutable air.
Before long, a tall old man emerged from the palace. Long, dark green hair hung loose down his back. Rather comically, however, the top of his head had no hair at all-he was balding.
