"Developing oneself..." Cheng Tian kept repeating those words. The self-development Granny Du spoke of clearly did not mean ordinary exercise to increase muscle strength. It meant developing a Pokémon's existing body, just as Gulpin changed its own toxins to adapt to its environment.
"Granny, how should I go about developing that?"
"Well, that's up to you." Granny Du shook her head. "I'm not you, so I can't possibly know your problems and circumstances. You'll have to think of a way based on your own Pokémon's species."
"All right, I'm getting old. I can't keep standing around with you youngsters. This old woman is going to rest for a while. Think about what you should do yourselves. I'll come out later, and you can battle each other too." With that, Granny Du slowly walked away with her cane.
Cheng Tian remained where he was, thinking about that question. Chen Tao came over and patted him on the back. "Cheng Tian, want to have a battle?"
"That's right! Let's have a fated showdown between the hero and the Evil King!"
Cheng Tian smiled and nodded. "Sure, let's have a battle."
Racking his brains alone would get him nowhere. He might as well have a battle; perhaps it would open up some new avenues of thought.
Of the coaches, Granny Du had left the earliest. The others were either teaching Pokémon-raising knowledge or organizing battles. Only this group had free training.
"Let's do it here." Cheng Tian walked over to an empty field.
"Oh, right, I heard from Wen Zhe that you're signing up for the Pokémon World League too." Chen Tao took out his phone. "Want to have a match?"
"Sure." Cheng Tian's eyes lit up. "How about two Pokémon each?"
"No problem." Chen Tao nodded, then tossed out a Poké Ball.
