"Hey... come have a meal with me!"
Han Chanjuan looked at He An expectantly.
"Another day... all right? I... still have something to do!"
He An answered rather distractedly.
"What's so urgent? I've been upset lately... I wanted you to keep me company... why do you look so awful? Did you not sleep well last night?"
Seeing the bloodshot whites of He An's eyes, Han Chanjuan asked with concern.
"I'm fine. Go back and get some rest... I need to hurry back and finish annotating the remaining books. Wenruo is about to return to her hometown. If I leave it any later... I'm afraid I won't get them to her in time!"
Han Chanjuan already had troubles weighing on her mind. Hearing how much He An cared about Ding Wenruo left her heart awash with clashing flavors, as though a bottle of seasonings had been overturned. She said angrily, "I won't let you be so good to her..."
"Wenruo just lost someone dearest to her. Right now, she really needs comfort and help from those around her. Teacher Ding has been busy making the funeral arrangements... he's always taken such good care of Dazhi and me, and Wenruo treats me like an older brother. This... is all I can do for her!" He An explained patiently.
Every sentence he spoke came back to Wenruo, leaving Han Chanjuan deeply uncomfortable. She said petulantly, "I won't listen, I won't listen! I just won't let you be so good to her!"
Seeing how unreasonable she was being, He An grew irritated despite himself and raised his voice. "Young lady, don't you have any compassion? All you ever do is make a fuss..."
"Then why don't you have any compassion for me? Have you considered my feelings?"
Han Chanjuan refused to let it go.
