To Miwa Chisei, Mei Mei was like an older sister. The two had met for money's sake, but in the end, they had formed a very different bond.
"Don't say that. With Ui Ui as my little brother and Qianxing as my little sister, I must be the most enviable older sister in the world."
A smile spread across Mei Mei's face, and she continued happily.
"Working with the Zenin Clan has gone much more smoothly than expected. I'm not worried about the Gojo Clan, either. As for the Kamo Clan..."
"Blacklist them for now and terminate all cooperation."
Miwa Chisei's voice was gentle, but her decision was ruthless and firm. Mei Mei's expression grew serious as well.
"No problem. I'll talk to Yuki about things overseas, too."
Hearing that, Miwa Chisei turned to look at Mei Mei's face. She was always so composed and mature.
"This is actually a personal grudge. We haven't worked with the Kamo Clan much in the past, but everything went smoothly when we did."
"You're saying that even if we didn't agree to end our cooperation, you'd take our position into consideration, little Qianxing?"
"That's exactly it."
Mei Mei couldn't help laughing, though she kept her hands on the steering wheel and watched the road ahead attentively.
"Then it's our personal grudge, too. After all, we're your friends, little Qianxing."
With everything that had happened lately, the feeling of being loved like this had become increasingly apparent.
Miwa Chisei said no more. She watched the last ray of sunset sink below the horizon, leaving the entire sky a soft gray-blue that soothed her heart.
The next day was a rare day off. Having set no alarm, Miwa Chisei vaguely sensed someone watching her as she slept.
A silver-haired man crouched beside her bed, grinning.
