Miwa Chisei could only endure the burning stare from behind her. She had no idea what had gotten Satoru Gojo so worked up.
"I need to discuss this with Miss Mei. We are partners, after all."
Since she had not rejected him outright, a glimmer of hope flashed in Kato Teru's eyes.
"Thank you very much, Miss Chisei."
Then Miwa Chisei closed her eyes in anguish and pushed the check back across the table.
"Please wait until I've confirmed things with Miss Mei before paying the deposit."
Kato Teru nodded with a smile, his tone full of praise.
"Miss Chisei, you're an excellent businesswoman."
Only heaven knew how much willpower Miwa Chisei had needed to keep herself from taking it. The agony was like ants gnawing at her heart.
Once the three of them had left the restaurant and reached a safe area, the mentally and physically exhausted Miwa Chisei came under verbal attack from Satoru Gojo.
"Why didn't you agree? It sounds suuuper interesting!"
In some ways, Satoru Gojo was just like his father: the bigger the spectacle, the better.
Miwa Chisei waved a hand. Her feet hurt from wearing heels.
"I don't really want to get involved with the Three Great Families. It sounds like a hassle."
Suguru Geto pinched his chin thoughtfully.
"So that's why you're so mean to Satoru, Miwa?"
"The more important reason I'm mean to him is that he's obnoxious."
Now that the conversation had turned to him, the obnoxious boy in question grabbed the back of Miwa Chisei's neck without hesitation.
"You think I want anything to do with you?"
Suguru Geto rubbed his brow, feeling a headache coming on. My dear best friend, why did you have to escalate things again?
Miwa Chisei did not want to argue with this childish idiot.
