"Come take a look?"
Chen Liang's voice came from behind them.
Song Ning and Xiong Gang turned to see his flashlight trained on one side of the metal cabinet.
They walked over and found an iron plate beside the cabinet, almost the same color as the floor.
There were no lights down here, and the plate sat right against the cabinet.
Without a careful look, they would never have noticed it.
Song Ning took one look and said:
"That's it! A weight-activated switch! In an old underground facility like this, a mechanism that relies on weight is the most reliable and least likely to fail!"
She swept her flashlight around. "This place is much bigger than the underground bases we encountered before. Even this passage is wider, so they put the switch in the corner by the cabinet instead of in the middle of the walkway."
Xiong Gang looked eager to try.
"How about... I give it a shot!"
Song Ning and Chen Liang both stepped back.
Xiong Gang stood on the plate.
The door did not budge.
Chen Liang looked at Song Ning. "The boss said you've encountered weight-activated mechanisms before. How did you get past them?"
Apparently, Gu Zheng had been too embarrassed to tell his subordinate exactly how he had carried Song Ning through the tunnels without a hitch, as though holding her were the most natural thing in the world.
Song Ning certainly wasn't going to expose him.
She simply said, "We need extra weights! Look around! Since they installed this mechanism, there must be weights provided nearby."
With that hint, Chen Liang soon found a pull-out tray beneath the metal cabinet.
He pulled it out, revealing a row of iron balls fitted with carrying rings.
