"I'm not the reincarnation of an ancestor demon."
Mingye smiled faintly, the sunset making his smile all the more radiant. He was not surprised that Sesshomaru would ask such a question.
After all, Fūzetsuga had just said as much, so it was only natural for Sesshomaru to have heard.
Sesshomaru's expression grew complicated. For some reason, part of him hoped Mingye was the reincarnation of an ancestor demon.
After all, if Mingye was an ancestor demon reborn, his earlier defeat at Mingye's hands would be understandable.
But Sesshomaru crushed that thought the moment it arose. He would not allow himself to think that way. Even if Mingye truly was an ancestor demon reborn, so what? That was no excuse for losing!
"But I have indeed awakened memories of my past life," Mingye said frankly. His rise had been far too rapid, and that explanation would help the yokai throughout the Demon World feel a little better about it.
Sesshomaru's eyes flickered with shock. Those words meant Mingye really was someone reincarnated, just not an ancestor demon.
"What were you in your past life?"
Sesshomaru could not help asking. Mingye's growth was truly astonishing. Even if he had not been an ancestor demon in his past life, he should have been extremely close to that level.
"You might not believe me, but in my past life, I was human!"
Mingye spoke calmly. He simply had not been a human from this world. He was not lying; everything he said was true.
"You were human!"
Sesshomaru was deeply shocked. He had imagined an immensely powerful great yokai, or a being on the verge of becoming an ancestor demon.
He had never expected Mingye to have been one of the humans he had always despised.
A reincarnated human had achieved something so extraordinary.
