Chapter Summaries

The Chosen Children were lured into Devimon’s house, where he drained their strength and prepared to break apart File Island. Zheng Fan regained control of his body, crashed into Devimon from the sky, and confronted the modified Digimon as Leomon and Ogremon moved to stop him.

• The children explored Devimon’s house, ate its food, and used its facilities while Devimon watched them and ordered Ogremon to gather more ingredients.
• Izzy accessed the house’s surveillance system, but the power failed before he could identify its owner; Devimon then made the house vanish under the children as they slept.
• T.K. woke to the cold and warned everyone, but the children’s attacks failed to stop Devimon, and their Digimon discovered they could no longer digivolve.
• Zheng Fan’s soul reunited with his body through the Crests of Courage and Friendship, and he regained control as he fell toward Devimon.
• Zheng Fan struck Devimon with the Night Dawn Sword and discovered mechanical modifications inside his body.
• Devimon called Leomon and Ogremon to hold Zheng Fan off, claiming he had not come to fight.

After File Island broke apart, Zheng Fan rescued Taichi and Joe, then began training them while recovering from his injuries. Three days later, he rushed to the Village of Beginnings to stop a herd of rampaging Triceramon from reaching it.

• Devimon ordered Leomon and Ogremon to kill the humans and Digimon as the earth split apart, but Zheng Fan wounded Devimon and kicked Ogremon into the sea with a plank.
• Zheng Fan woke a day later and met Taichi Yagami and Joe Kido, explaining that humans could grow stronger and offering to train them.
• Zheng Fan trained Taichi, Joe, and Agumon for three days after File Island broke apart.
• Elecmon told Zheng Fan that a herd of Triceramon had charged out of a cave near the rift, and Zheng Fan flew toward the Village of Beginnings as the herd approached.

Zheng Fan tried to keep Tai and Joe Kido out of the battle against the Triceramon, but Tai's anger triggered Agumon's digivolution into Greymon while Agumon was high in the sky. Zheng Fan worked to slow Greymon's fall and heal him as Tai realized he had caused trouble and cheered them on.

• Tai, Joe Kido, and their Digimon defied Zheng Fan's orders and joined him near the Village of Beginnings.
• Joe Kido explained that the chosen children had to face danger, while Tai grew increasingly distressed by his thoughts.

• Aegiochusmon used Sheep Charge to scatter the Triceramon, then collapsed from exhaustion as the herd surrounded him.
• Zheng Fan set up defensive sword traces before resting, and Tai had Koromon digivolve into Greymon to face the herd.
• Zheng Fan’s sword traces severed one Triceramon’s leg and crippled two others, while Greymon and Aegiochusmon attacked the remaining herd.

The battle ended with Yukidarumon breaking the ice over the Black Gear himself, leaving the gear exposed but weighing him down with a heavy layer of absolute-zero ice.

• Matt told Leomon that the Night Dawn Sword was growing impatient, and Leomon said he would kill Yukidarumon if he could not destroy the Black Gear.
• Leomon explained that he would rather bear the regret of killing Yukidarumon than let his friend remain controlled or suffer remorse for the harm he had caused.
• The next morning, Leomon and Matt returned to the snowy region, where Yukidarumon attacked with Absolute Zero Punch and Garurumon joined the fight with Fox Fire.

• Mimi Tachikawa asked Elderlymon for help with her fatigue, but he refused to use his support power on her again after noticing it had adverse effects.
• Sukamon detected unfamiliar Digimon approaching, and Elderlymon raised a Barrier as Cyclomon, DemiDevimon, and Lobomon attacked.
• Kangarumon dropped from above and attacked Elderlymon, but Elderlymon, Palmon, and Chimairamon worked together to capture him.
• Elderlymon began gathering light to destroy Kangarumon's Black Gear, but Kangarumon screamed, revealed black runes, and surged with chaotic data energy.

Kangarumon absorbed War Bearmon and attacked the group, but Mimi’s Digivice triggered Palmon’s evolution into Cactismon and Elderlymon’s restoration as Mastermon. Kangarumon vanished after its War Bearmon form was destroyed, then attacked Mimi again and was kept back by Cactismon’s Spiky Bump Punch.

• Sukamon’s Putrid Stench incapacitated Mimi, Chimairamon, and most of the attacking Digimon, while Elderlymon cleared enough of the odor to act.
• Kangarumon transformed War Bearmon’s data into a controllable shell and used it to attack Elderlymon and drag Palmon toward it.

Meanwhile, Izzy explored a deserted town with Tentomon, where a mysterious magician calling himself Mr. Cardmaster Twister appeared after destroying a swarm of Black Gears.

• Tentomon digivolved into Kabuterimon, and Butterflymon used Mothmon Sorrow to briefly freeze the fallen Digimon, allowing the defenders to attack.

Izzy and Oraclemon discovered that a corrupted Numemon was evolving into MegaNumemon, whose emergence devastated the battlefield and killed Fighting Dragonmon. Cardmaster Twister arrived in time to shield Izzy, while corrupted Claypotmon turned against Oraclemon and launched a mass of flesh at him and T.K.

• Izzy identified an unusually large Numemon, and Oraclemon used Eye of Fate to confirm it was evolving into an ultimate Digimon, losing an eye in the process.
• Claypotmon fired a signal flare, allowing Cardmaster Twister to head toward the Ancient Factory as Numemon digivolved into MegaNumemon and absorbed Black Gears from corrupted Digimon.

• Cardmaster Twister attacked MegaNumemon with Royal Poker and Earth Vein Seal, blinding it and sealing its tunnels, but MegaNumemon used Endless Defense to devour fallen Digimon and grow larger.

• Sora landed on the island with Biyomon and Gomamon, dried their clothes, and went to gather food while they rested.
• Sora and her Digimon camped for the night, unaware that Bakemon from Graveyard Mound had gathered nearby.
• The Bakemon argued over whether to capture Sora and hand her over to Lost Satanmon, then one stole her Digivice and was destroyed by its golden light.

• Big Mouthmon caught Biyomon, and Sora charged in to rescue her, only to be swept up in his Great Whirlwind.

Their traps sparked a spreading forest fire, and Big Mouthmon had Gomamon knock Sora unconscious before she could rush in to fight it.

• Sora, Biyomon, and Gomamon freed Big Mouthmon from a Black Gear, and he explained that Viktormon and other Champion Digimon had been controlled while repairing an ancient installation.
• Big Mouthmon suggested that mischievous In-Training Digimon might have taken Sora's Digivice, but Sora decided to confront the Bakemon patrol in the mass graveyard.
• On the way, Big Mouthmon explained how Bakemon used their cloaks and Hell's Hand, and Sora planned to destroy their cloaks with traps.
• Big Mouthmon, Biyomon, Sora, and Gomamon prepared whirlwind, fire, and thorn traps to ambush the Bakemon patrol.
