Shen Jin and Yun Xiaoran soon finished cooking.
Thanks to yesterday's preparations, lunch was especially lavish, with all sorts of delicacies from land and sea.
Yun Xiaoran had an excellent handle on cooking, so before mealtime even arrived, Ning Yao's and Shen Cong's stomachs had already begun growling embarrassingly.
Waves of delicious aromas drifted out of the kitchen.
Although Shen Cong had been very stern with his son-in-law over the phone, he was nowhere near as demanding after meeting Yun Xiaoran in person.
In fact, because of Ning Yao,
he even found himself quite awkward at times.
Shen Cong cleared his throat lightly, then teased, "Why's that kid been cooking forever without coming out?"
Ning Yao glanced at Shen Cong, her eyes bearing some resemblance to Shen Jin's, then said,
"What business is it of yours? My son-in-law's making more dishes for me. If you don't want any of his delicious food, you can leave right now."
In an instant, Ning Yao's words turned the atmosphere in the living room tense.
But Shen Cong paid it no mind and merely stayed silent.
His expression returned to normal. He was already used to Ning Yao constantly shutting him down like this.
"Food's ready!"
Shen Jin was the first to emerge from the kitchen, already wearing a pink apron,
carrying a bowl of silkie chicken soup.
Seeing his daughter bringing out a dish, Shen Cong hurried to his feet and took it from her, smiling. "Who knew my daughter was such a good cook?"
Shen Jin paused at that, then said awkwardly,
"Actually, Yun Xiaoran made this."
Hmph, that brat again.
Still, considering how delicious his cooking smelled,
his daughter probably wouldn't go hungry in the future. Shen Cong merely nodded lightly and said,
"I didn't expect that kid to be such
