"Director, Professor Mogwin needs to see you," Rundstedt's assistant Bruce said as he walked in.
Rundstedt set down the documents in his hands and slowly raised his head.
"Did he say what it was about?"
"Professor Mogwin wants more staff for his experimental project," Bruce said.
"More staff?" Rundstedt glanced at the documents on his desk and slowly stood.
"Understood. Keep a close eye on the man from Hizuru who's been around Poet, and compile a record of his recent movements-who he's met and where he's been. Bring it all to me later," Rundstedt instructed.
"Understood," Bruce replied.
Rundstedt then left his office, took a secret passage to a mechanical lift, and descended into the underground testing grounds.
Expansion of the underground testing grounds had already begun. Drilling machines ran twenty-four hours a day, with workers taking shifts. Rundstedt entered Mogwin's sealed laboratory, where twenty men in their prime lay on stretcher beds, their limbs secured with iron clamps.
On the other side, Roald lay inside a sealed tank filled with nutrient solution. Six transfusion tubes had been inserted into his body, and his blood flowed steadily into a massive storage tank beside him.
The original plan had been for Roald to transform into a Titan and have Mogwin prepare hundreds of transfusion tubes to drain his blood. But with the underground facility still being expanded, a Titan transformation could cause a cave-in. Recruitment of the two thousand Titan test subjects was also incomplete, so for now, they were drawing blood from his human body.
Mogwin was observing test subjects two, three, and four. Blood had already been injected into all three, while the researchers nearby stood tensely, ready to record the data at any moment.
All the beds had been reinforced and wired to deliver an electric current, allowing
