In that split second, Chris felt as though time and space had begun to slow. A bolt of lightning shot out of her shattered Sunglasses, pulverizing the incoming bullet.
"Miss Chris!!" Chris fell backward, and Sasha caught her with a sob in her voice.
Sasha looked at Chris's face in anguish, hardly able to bear it, only to find one clear brown eye exposed.
"Miss Chris?" Sasha murmured blankly, looking down at the smoking barrel.
In the instant Chris had brushed against death, she seemed to have grasped something-an unfathomable power. She immediately snatched the sniper rifle from Sasha with one hand.
The tremendous force dragged Sasha forward despite her tight grip before the rifle finally passed into Chris's hands.
Chris raised the sniper rifle and aimed at the airship, only to find it obscured by Airship Three. She immediately swung the muzzle toward the distance. Brilliant silver light blazed in her eyes, and a silver wave swept toward a building a thousand meters away.
Everything in the building where Gal stood froze, as though suspended in absolute stillness. Gal remained motionless, his expression rigid.
A moment later, a bullet hurtled toward the building at nearly the speed of light. A head exploded, scattering flesh, blood, and brain matter.
Chris drew a deep breath and stumbled. A short section of her hair turned white at the tips, and severe dizziness swept through her head.
Swaying from side to side, Chris fought down the dizziness and stared blankly at the shattered Sunglasses in her palm. "He saved me again," she murmured.
Emotion surged through Chris. At that moment, her heart seemed to soften and grow damp.
"Chris!! Chris!!" Seeing Chris collapse in the distance, Mike charged toward her like a madman, barreling through everything in his way. He lunged forward and
