"Why are you here?" Gendo Ikari stood high above him, behind a pane of glass. His cold voice came through the speakers.
Shinji took a deep breath and met Gendo Ikari's gaze with determination. "Because... I'm the pilot of EVA Unit-01! And..."
"I don't want the people who care about me, or the people I care about, to get hurt!!!"
Shinji shouted that last sentence with all his strength. He wanted to release the emotions he had bottled up for so long, to show his cold, heartless father a different side of himself, and to reject the Shinji Ikari his father had described.
Gendo Ikari fell silent. He stood motionless and said nothing.
On the surface above NERV Base.
The Special Unit kept panting thick clouds of white vapor from its mouth. Its blue eyes and cracked halo had dimmed considerably.
A huge diagonal sword wound stretched across the Power Angel's body. It was healing slowly enough to see, strands of new flesh growing and knitting together.
Huang Zhetian knew he was running on fumes. Before long, he would collapse.
The cable on the Special Unit's back had snapped during the fight with the Power Angel, and its stored electricity was rapidly running out. Without an S² Engine installed, it could not go berserk like Unit-01!
I never expected the Power Angel to be this strong. No wonder it's the strongest Angel.
It truly deserves that title...
