As the shield wall closed in, pitch-black "thorn bone spikes" suddenly shot from the armor of the Black Nether guards in the front rank, reeking of rot. Like thousands of poisoned steel needles, they slammed into the dark silver shields with a teeth-grating scrape, scattering sparks mixed with "slime" that corroded the protective soul power coating the shields.

From the rear ranks, dark figures shrouded in black mist hurled "Corrupt Blood Javelins" wreathed in dark green ghostfire. They shrieked through the air, and whenever one struck a gap in a knight's armor or hit a warhorse, the poisonous flames bursting from it burned ravenously through flesh and blood, even eating pits into metal. Infected knights fell screaming and rolled on the ground, their skin rapidly blackening and festering.

The fighting in the sky was just as brutal.

The Knight Order's Flying God Guard detachment held the advantage in numbers. Clad in light but sturdy scale armor, they swept over the battlefield like a flock of silver eagles beneath the sun.

The high-speed battle aura fired from the Windbreaker Spears in their hands fell like a driving rain of streaking light.

But the Black Nether army's aerial cavalry rode Bone-Wing Carrion Vultures or Shadow Bats wreathed in wandering souls, resembling a swarm of Bat Demons that had crawled out of the depths of hell.

Though fewer in number, they were far stranger and harder to deal with.

Streams of foul-smelling "corrupt poisonous black smoke," dense enough to seem solid, spewed forth and contaminated vast stretches of airspace. Warhorses and knights who inhaled it coughed in agony, their vision going black.

An ear-splitting Soul Screech swept past without warning, throwing the Silver Wing knights' formation into disarray. Many suffered splitting headaches and lost control of their movements.
