It was the same underground chamber deep within the drainage hub, beneath the same few specially made Blooddrop Stone Soul Guidance Lamps casting their sickly reddish-brown light, beside the same enormous round table forged from fused bones.
Only four figures sat around the table.
The empty seat of Number Four, the Scarlet Mask, was like a silent hole brimming with ominous foreboding. The air seemed to retain a slick aftertaste of blood and infant cries.
An eerie gleam flickered in the eye sockets of Number Five's Pallid Mute Mask. His hollow voice was the first to break the suffocating silence:
"At our meeting the day before yesterday, we were still solemnly swearing to help one another and keep watch. The echoes of Number Four saying 'desire must be restrained' and 'wait until the blizzard sweeps through Crimson's territory' haven't even faded... Heh, heh. Yesterday, the Dusk and Dawn Office's 'blizzard' did indeed sweep through Crimson's Black Nether Legion, but right on its heels, the Supervisory Court's blade swept over Number Four himself!"
"Number One, isn't this 'coincidence' a little too hot to handle? What happened to your promise to 'send word immediately if any spies approached'? Number Four's entire lair was wiped out!"
Number One, the Golden Ghost Mask, gave a short, sharp scoff, his gaze sweeping across the other two beneath his mask:
"Number Five, you can eat whatever rubbish you like, but you can't talk rubbish! I promised to monitor the underground network. Those mad dogs from the Supervisory Court never came down here this time. They smashed straight through the ground with pinpoint precision, at that slaughterhouse in Huarun District... the aboveground exit to Number Four's hideout."
