As they passed the entrance to a side courtyard guarded by numerous Brocade Guards, faint shouts and the clatter of chains drifted out.
Chen Mu tipped his chin toward it. "Uncle Gu, let me show you where it is first. Those miners should all be locked up here for now, so you won't go to the wrong place when you come back to get your people. Uncle Gu, Xiao San, let's go."
Gu Yuanchao nodded, and the three turned into the sternly guarded courtyard.
Chen Xiaojun did not stop. Accompanied by another Brocade Guard serving as his guide, he continued deeper inside.
Before long, the corridor ahead opened up, revealing a massive bronze gate standing wide open, engraved with the Chen Clan's distinctive Seven Kill Sword crest.
This was the gate between the Backyard and the Central Courtyard.
Beyond the gate stood two burly guards in regulation scale armor.
They were powerfully built, their presence steady as iron. A faint metallic rasp came from the joints of their armor.
Then they bowed in unison, their movements perfectly synchronized, their armor plates clanging.
"Young Master!" Their deep, respectful voices echoed briefly between the rock walls.

Before him stretched a broad ramp hewn from solid dark-gray granite, its familiar roughness beneath his feet.
At the end of the ramp lay Iron Jaw Fortress's central square, as spacious as a drill ground.
Foot traffic across the level, solid floor of black basalt was sparse but hurried. Everyone wore clothing bearing either the affiliated insignia of the Chen, Yang, Ximen, or Ma families, or the emblem of Iron Jaw Fortress's Workshop.
Soul Masters hurried across the square. Two Chen Clan disciples
