The Blazing Light Guardian Beasts' valley lay on one side of White Dew Mountain, right beside the Shadow Scale-Armored Beasts' shadow-shrouded territory.
A lush, dense forest dozens of li wide stretched between them, like an impassable chasm carved by nature, quietly separating the worlds of light and darkness.
To achieve their goal, Zhang Ci's group had to weave through the perilous air close to the ground. They dared not fly too high, lest the Shadow Scale-Armored Beasts slip off the hook.
The Shadow Scale-Armored Beasts were feared throughout this region. Though poor at ranged combat, their tails could unleash dark, dangerous blasts of light.
These were slower than the Blazing Light Guardian Beasts' almost instantaneous white light projectiles, but for Zhang Ci and the others, they were still numerous and unrelenting.
As the Shadow Scale-Armored Beasts' assault grew fiercer, Zhang Ci and his companions had to use every trick they knew to find slivers of survival within the perilous forest.
The trees became their natural shields. Every turn and sharp change of direction pushed their reflexes and spatial awareness to the limit.
In this contest against nature's forces, the Shadow Scale-Armored Beasts displayed the might and majesty of territorial overlords.
They charged together, snapping great trees in their wake. Trunks crashed down, sand and stones whirled through the gale they stirred up, and dust blotted out the sky like yellow smoke.
The other soul beasts that had inhabited this forest chose to flee the sudden disaster, their figures swiftly disappearing amid the chaos and din.
Zhang Ci's group darted through the dense forest like a little boat sailing through a storm, forever at risk of being swallowed by towering waves.
