Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Intelligent starting character | 1 | Downgrades his proposed Genius trait to Intelligent, removes expensive physical traits, and reduces attributes to meet the mandatory Iron Man creation limit. |
| Inherited military training becomes usable | 14 | During his fight with Dou Huaijin, training previously accessible only through merged memories becomes bodily usable: riding, swordsmanship, conditioning, marksmanship, and KMF simulation experience. |
| Shen Hu low-power compatibility | 27 | Completes a simulator test at 40% output. His spatial judgment and weapons coordination meet testing standards; this does not establish full-power compatibility. |
| Brave trait | 86 | Gains Brave after accepting a nondelegable combat duty despite understanding the risk of death. Combat stress gain decreases and personal valor increases. |
| IS Core-assisted control | 87 | The Shen Hu’s IS Core rewrites his control curve, reaching 43% adaptation in the displayed notification. Its PIC function remains unavailable, so physical acceleration still strains him. |
| Psionic Potential | 128 | Acquires latent supernatural potential after briefly resonating with C.C. He receives neither a Geass contract nor the immediate consciousness-manipulation abilities he expected. |
| Psionic Potential responds to blue Geass | 156 | His potential stirs during Leila’s awakened Geass connection, allowing a shared experience of emotions, senses, memories, and convictions. The Geass belongs to Leila, not Lin Cuo. |
Background / History
Before entering the system, Lin Cuo was a Paradox strategy-game player running a heavily modified cross-era campaign through Crusader Kings III, Europa Universalis IV, Victoria 3, Hearts of Iron IV, and Stellaris. His save progressed from a Hexi noble family to a spacefaring empire. He was transferring the campaign into Stellaris when he obtained the system 1.
For his first world, he rejected the E.U.’s political paralysis and Britannia’s dangerous imperial politics in favor of the Great Han Federation. He selected the Hexi Lin Clan background for its western military connections and inherited the Duke of Liang title 1.
The generated background made his father a former Protector General of Anxi and deputy commander-in-chief of the Hexi Military Region. His father had died two years earlier in an unresolved military train bombing while overseeing reinforcements on the Siberian front. The Chief Eunuchs subsequently brought Lin Cuo to Luoyang under the pretext of royal education, effectively holding the clan heir hostage 1 2 14.
Lin Cuo selected Jiang Lihua as his intended spouse. The system incorporated a marriage agreement established by the late emperor to balance the eunuchs against regional military power. The eunuchs intended to turn him into a powerless, matrilineally married consort; he instead saw the betrothal as legitimate access to the sovereign and a means of resisting a Britannian marriage alliance 2.
Appearance
- Youthful appearance: His age of sixteen leads Zhao Hao to regard him as easy to control 3.
- Notably attractive: The system records his “outstanding looks” as a favorable first-impression modifier 3.
- Post-Kashgar injuries: He undergoes burn recovery and later keeps his left arm in a cooling brace with regeneration gel 108 113.
Personality
Lin Cuo is ambitious, industrious, and deliberately shameless. He treats reputation as a political resource rather than an inviolable principle, accepting public humiliation when it buys access, authority, or time. His apparent loyalty to the Chief Eunuchs is a calculated performance, sustained through flattery, gifts, and conspicuous displays of dependence 3 12 13 67.
His administrative pragmatism can become ruthless coercion. He prioritizes centralized command, industrial capacity, and humanity’s survival, while recognizing that purges can destroy expertise and encourage dishonest reporting. He admits approving coercive methods and bearing command responsibility, but disputes attempts to assign all institutional wrongdoing to him personally 15 147 148. Leila’s mental connection exposes both his cruelty and his determination to keep humanity alive 156.
He habitually delegates enormous workloads to capable subordinates, especially Li Xingke. This reliance does not prevent him from accepting personal danger: during the Hive assault, he remains frightened but fights rather than leaving others to bear every risk of his decisions 23 86 87 156.
His flirtation frequently disregards boundaries. He kisses C.C. without permission and tries to win Nina’s trust through carefully targeted emotional reassurance, prompting C.C. to warn him against exploiting her vulnerability 127 139. His loneliness is also genuine: Leila encounters memories of his childhood isolation and, despite continuing to condemn him, offers to let him call her “mother” once 156.
Abilities & Skills
Paradox System
- Character assessment: Reads attributes, traits, opinions, loyalty patterns, and temporary modifiers to identify allies, vulnerabilities, and political risks 3 21 59 116.
- National policy: Selects national focuses, resolutions, and military development paths; later combines propaganda focuses into Truth Mobilization and Every Radio Is a Recruiting Station 8 15 44 119.
- Unit deployment: Spends political power to introduce organized formations, including a 1,248-person armored training regiment and 7,842 Prussian field-gendarmerie and traffic-management personnel 9 67.
- Cross-world recruitment: Accesses mercenary and asylum applications containing personnel, combat units, technology, and transfer conditions 75 81.
- Infrastructure planning: Uses a city-building interface to lay out utilities, freight routes, medical zones, and shelters. Plans still require budgets, materials, workers, and land 113.
- Limits: Cannot disable Iron Man mode or reload. Cross-world sanctuary can attract the refugees’ original calamities, and higher-dimensional threats prevent deployment of his Stellaris fleet 1 19 75.
Administration and Industrial Mobilization
- Converts ancestral luxury property into KMF factories, testing facilities, spare parts, and technical archives, accepting substantial bank debt 11 18.
- Uses confiscated assets as collateral for redeemable notes, obtaining immediate cash for military production and unpaid wages 19.
- Builds support by paying soldiers, restoring machines, and promoting personnel previously blocked by family connections 19.
- Pursues equipment standardization while preserving both high-performance KMF research and conventional tank, armored-car, and artillery production 28 47 135.
- Proposes the 180-millimeter Quake-Mountain Siege Vehicle, with deployable tracks, hydraulic supports, and recoil spades 135.
Political Maneuvering and Diplomacy
- Uses court ritual, historical precedent, and imperial authorization to give coups and institutional reforms a recognizable legal basis 7 27 67.
- Designs a proposed United Blue Star Government with independent member governments, shared defense standards, treaty-based aid, audits, and mechanisms capable of checking Great Han 40.
- Secures cooperation through prestigious titles when direct control would provoke resistance, notably recognizing Katase’s military standing to improve Liberation Front participation 59.
- Recognizes the limits of personal intimidation: the system rates his deterrence and administrative effectiveness extremely highly, but his diplomatic credibility and treaty reliability poorly 60.
Military Judgment and Piloting
- Understands strategy, industrial preparation, and the BETA threat well enough to organize large-scale mobilization before the invasion 87.
- Defers immediate battlefield control to specialists, accepting Todo’s formation orders and dividing responsibilities among Li Xingke, Todo, Chifuyu, and Lelouch 87 94.
- Pilots the Shen Hu in combat using its particle cannon, Rope Dart, thrusters, and experimental radiation weapon against Assault-class BETA 86 87.
- Remains dependent on cockpit modifications, life support, and a breathing mask. IS-assisted controls improve handling but do not eliminate inertia or poor machine compatibility 87.
Psionic Potential
- Provides a possible route toward future supernatural development, rather than an immediately usable Geass 128.
- Responds to Leila’s blue Geass and supports their mutual mental connection 156.
- Does not establish demonstrated independent lie detection, mind control, Code possession, or immortality 128 156.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Shen Hu — High-performance KMF approaching eighth-generation standards. Its original equipment includes the Rope Dart, Electric-Shock Mechanism, Laser Blade, and Sky-Shock Overlord Charged Particle Cannon; its severe pilot load initially prevents ordinary operators from sustaining full output 18.
- Modified Shen Hu cockpit and IS Core — Adjusts support structures and control behavior to Lin Cuo’s inputs, with automated assistance for shields and life support 86 87.
- Experimental Radiation Fluctuation Generator — Left-arm anti-BETA module capable of heating internal tissues through external structures. It is weaker than the Guren Shen Hu’s dedicated system and subject to overload and cooldown restrictions 87 105.
- Rakshata’s breathing mask — Helps him maintain controlled breathing under the Shen Hu’s physical loads 87.
- Lin Military Tally — Required in practice for mobilizing the Lin family’s external troops, even when nominal command belongs to Li Xingke 8.
- Military-industrial holdings — The Luoyang High-Load KMF Joint Testing Institute, two Gao Hai assembly plants, and a joint-and-power-accessories factory 18.
Relationships
- Jiang Lihua — Betrothed sovereign and the principal source of his political legitimacy. Their relationship combines affectionate care with disputes over his accumulation of offices and his obligation to restore her authority 2 19 46 66.
- Li Xingke — Principal military collaborator. Initially despises Lin Cuo’s apparent eunuch allegiance, but works with him through Jiang Lihua’s authorization; Lin Cuo relies heavily on his competence and seeks treatment for his failing health 5 8 23 94.
- Zhao Hao — Adoptive father in Lin Cuo’s public political performance. Lin Cuo uses his patronage to obtain military authority, then personally kills him during the palace coup 3 12 31.
- Chou Xianglin — Trusted operational collaborator who helps arrange palace security, recognizes the coup signal, and receives Jiang Lihua during the purge 27 31.
- Kallen Kouzuki — Allied pilot who challenges his intentions toward Area 11. His willingness to place Great Han under shared rules substantially improves her opinion, although his flirtation remains unwelcome 40 49.
- Todo — Allied commander whom Lin Cuo compares to Li Xingke. Takes tactical control over him in combat and later receives responsibility for military affairs inside the Hive 59 87 94.
- Lelouch — Recruited into staff coordination through the prospect of treatment for Nunnally. Commands the planning work for eighteen Indian divisions, subject to Li Xingke’s final veto 53 94.
- Tabane — Cross-world technical collaborator and fellow risk-taker. Joins him in drawing BETA away from the Hive core; Chifuyu later forbids them from planning dangerous ventures together 100 107.
- Chifuyu Orimura — Allied military leader who receives temporary posts, leads the attack on the Hive’s main fluid lines, and intervenes in Lin Cuo’s recovery and reckless planning 94 100 107 108.
- Takemi Tae — Medical specialist who rejects promised “miracle” cures and sets mandatory physiological limits for modified Shen Hu operation 33 53.
- C.C. — Temporary supernatural-affairs consultant who briefly resonates with him but gives him no Geass contract. Insists on the right to quit, refuses forced overtime, and criticizes his treatment of Nina 128 138 139.
- Nina Einstein — Researcher whose high-energy sakuradite work prompts his immediate recruitment order. He subsequently seeks her trust through personal attention rather than a conventional work meeting 128 139.
- Leila Malcal — Detained political opponent whose Geass exposes their deepest convictions to one another. The system labels them political enemies and soulmates; she explicitly refuses to equate closeness with forgiveness 131 147 156.
- Cornelia and Gilford — Targets of diplomatic and military engagement. Lin Cuo openly admires Cornelia, but his attempt to recruit Gilford fails because the knight’s loyalty remains firmly attached to her 114 119.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rise Within the Great Han
| Event | Chapter | Significance |

| Gains an acting Commandant of the Army appointment | 4 6 | Receives limited access to Western Garden troops and a testing institute; pay, personnel, and movement outside Luoyang remain under eunuch control. |
| Becomes acting Northern Army Zhonghou | 13 | Retains his existing office and gains audit and reequipment authority. Initial Northern Army obedience is only 11%. |
| Establishes a military-industrial base | 18 19 | Acquires factories, pays arrears, restores Gao Hai units, and promotes overlooked soldiers and officers. |
| Launches the palace purge | 29 31 | Uses the East Sea Peace Conference and a hidden nationwide broadcast to expose the forced-marriage scheme, secure Jiang Lihua’s refusal, and turn the troops against the regency faction. |
| Becomes head of government | 38 | Receives the offices of Acting Regent, Director of the Secretariat, Grand Marshal, and commander of the capital’s principal armies. Lord Regent is an address he accepts, not the formal title granted by the edict. |
Common Defense and Treaty Legitimacy
- Negotiates a framework that protects Area 11’s sovereignty and distinguishes its own weapons from treaty aid and jointly managed equipment 40.
- Accepts limits on emergency powers, independent reporting to Jiang Lihua, and oversight of purge authorities after she demands the eventual restoration of her powers 46.
- Swears the Luo River Oath with Jiang Lihua, guaranteeing that India’s autonomy and political choices cannot be revoked unilaterally. India subsequently approves mobilization for 302 planned divisions and more than 5.3 million first-round recruits 61.
- Places imported Prussian field gendarmes under Great Han military law, forbidding party insignia and unsanctioned executions despite their poor political compatibility 67 68.
Kashgar and the First BETA Landing
- Organizes defenses across Kashgar, the Pamir, and Herat before the enemy’s landing site is known 68.
- Opens recruitment to survivors of devastated worlds and identifies Penglai Island as a suitable refuge for the IS Academy–Project IS technical group 75 81.
- Enters the Hive operation personally, protects engineering vehicles, and joins Tabane in acting as a high-energy decoy to draw thousands of BETA from the core 86 87 100.
- The Shen Hu destroys the Reactor, collapsing the Hive’s production infrastructure. Lin Cuo wakes in a Medical Pod after humanity defeats the first Landing Unit at severe cost 107.
Postwar Reconstruction and Recruitment
- Continues city planning during medical recovery, arranging backup utilities, freight infrastructure, medical districts, and wartime shelters 113.
- Includes Tabane in Nunnally’s treatment project under strict consent requirements and pursues military exchanges with Britannian personnel 114 119.
- Creates propaganda-focused national policies that expand state and military capacity at the expense of social trust and public dissent 119.
- Recruits C.C. for supernatural research, orders Nina’s recruitment, and establishes an armored-force organization and equipment-standards commission under Cao Yuanming 128 135.
Leila and the Limits of His Methods
- Gains W-0 personnel for the common defense system while suspending Leila’s command through restraint measures and influencing E.U. parliamentary outcomes through targeted funding 131.
- Faces resistance even from collaborators who accept the strategic value of the transfers but refuse to endorse his methods 137.
- Confronts Leila with documents showing how Smilas intends to place responsibility for W-0’s failures on her, then disputes her distinction between his personal actions and institutional wrongdoing 147 148.
- Their eventual mental connection reveals his fear, loneliness, ambition, and willingness to sacrifice lives for survival. Leila continues to condemn his detention, torture, Paris operation, and treatment of people as resources 156.
