"Which cinema are you going to?"
"Tokyo Hot Cinema," Makima said slowly.
"Go ahead without me. I still have a movie to shoot this afternoon, so I don't have time to hang out with you."
"Since you're not coming, I'll take Denji with me," Makima said softly. "Let's go, Denji."
"Yes, Miss Makima."
Denji hurried after Makima.
"Miss Makima, do you have anything planned for today?"
"Is there anywhere you'd like to go, Denji?"
A hotel! A motel would work, too.
That was what Denji really wanted to say, but he couldn't possibly say it aloud.
"I'll leave it up to you, Miss Makima."
Makima, please, take me to either one.
That was another of Denji's unspoken thoughts.
"How about we watch every movie at the cinema, starting now?"
Nine out of ten dates involved a movie. It was practically the standard.
But as long as he could go on a date with Makima,
Denji was willing to go anywhere.
"Sure! I'd love to watch movies with you, Makima."
With that, the two headed to the cinema.
Makima bought the tickets.
The first movie they watched was a comedy.
It was called "100% Teng Content."
Apart from the two of them, who never laughed,
everyone in the theater laughed.
On average, laughter broke out every two minutes.
But Denji and Makima remained unmoved.
A couple sitting nearby found that puzzling.
If Denji hadn't occasionally turned to look at Makima's profile,
they would have thought the cinema had put two mannequins there to fill the seats.
After finishing the first comedy,
the two sat outside the screening room, waiting for their next movie.
They also discussed the comedy they had just watched.
Denji's verdict was that it was just okay.
