Chu Mu looked down at the person who had spoken.
It was a little blond girl, though she could have been a boy. At that age, it was hard to tell a child's gender by appearance alone.
She wore a fluffy windproof hat and had chubby cheeks. She was a few years younger than Clara, looking only six or seven.
When the child saw Chu Mu staring at her without saying anything, she frowned and said in a childish voice:
"Hey, why aren't you saying anything? I've never seen you in this town before. Which town did you come from?"
Chu Mu shook his head and pointed at his mouth, indicating that he couldn't speak.
"Huh? Can you hear, then?" the child asked.
Chu Mu nodded.
"Then listen carefully." The child put her hands on her hips and declared loyally, "In this town, Wildfire looks after the grown-ups, and we Moles look after the kids. Standing before you is the boss of the Moles. You can call me Pitch-Dark Hook the Great!"
After saying that, the little girl named Hook hurriedly shook her head and said awkwardly:
"No, no, I forgot you can't talk. Anyway, all you need to know is that I'm the leader of the Moles. Now you're a member of the Moles too! We need to give you a codename."
"What kind of codenames do you have?" Chu Mu typed.
"Many-Faced Julian, Sneaky Kid, Iron-Armed Luka, and Pitch-Dark Hook the Great!" Hook rattled them off, then realized something was wrong.
She looked at Chu Mu and said:
"Y-you, you-how did you talk?"
Chu Mu showed her the phone in his hand.
"What's that? Some treasure you found in the scrapyard?" Hook stared blankly at the bright phone screen. "It must be worth loads and loads of money."
