A cleaner in orange work clothes emerged from the elevator, pushing a large trash can.
By the time he reached the lobby, a large crowd had already gathered there.
Goff's unrestrained performance had drawn most of the attention away from the rescue operation.
Goff felt like a clown in a circus, only with his stage moved to Giantwood Tower.
As it happened, Goff's parents really had worked in a circus, though they had been acrobats.
When he was little, they often threatened to feed him to the lions if he didn't study hard.
With their prodding, Goff had managed to get into an academy in Giantwood City and land a job everyone envied, becoming an employee of the Giantwood Group.
But the job hadn't made him happy.
The pay was high, but surviving in Giantwood City was difficult for a young man from a small town like him.
Besides, without connections, an employee couldn't climb the ladder through hard work alone.
Barring any surprises, Goff might have worked until retirement and still remained a low-level employee, with barely enough savings to buy a home.
Fortunately, Goff had found a shortcut.
Sure, his wife was a little old, and his stepson was about his own age.
But, but Goff had gotten promoted! His career had taken off!
He had escaped that pitiful life where he could see exactly how everything would end. When he returned to his hometown, even the mayor had to come fawn over him, welcoming this senior employee from Giantwood City.
For a time, Goff had considered himself lucky.
But not exactly happy.
His wife looked down on his parents back in their small town. He couldn't even bring them to live in the city, though he wanted to.
After all, he was nothing more than a dog
