The war unfolded differently from what any of the bugs had imagined.
It began with vast armies of corpses that had risen again under the Void's corruption.
These shambling dead no longer resembled what they had been in life. The Void had reshaped them into something else entirely.
Yet however frail, however weak, they still writhed toward the living to attack.
Spears pierced their heads, and greatswords cleaved their bodies apart.
Their mindless muttering and vaguely familiar faces did nothing to stay the soldiers' blades.
But the soldiers soon discovered what made this war truly terrifying.
Bug corpses with their heads pierced fell to the ground, only to tremble and rise again shortly afterward.
The corpses hacked in two did not disappear. They crawled and writhed, trying every possible means to contaminate bodies that had not yet died.
"Can't they die?" a recruit asked through gritted teeth, using every ounce of strength to cut the miner before him in half at the waist.
There was no spray of blood, no scream of pain. The miner simply fell, but the recruit soon noticed that his enemy had not stopped moving.
The miner crawled toward him with only his upper body remaining, his mask scraping against the ground until it fell off.
The Void-corroded face beneath terrified the recruit.
He crawled right up to the recruit before another veteran viciously pinned him to the ground with a thrust.
"Hey, greenhorn! Get your head in the fight, or you'll die here!"
"Yes, sir!" came the terrified reply, followed by a struggle to suppress his nausea and keep fighting.
The recruit realized that he had nearly died just now.
The same scene played out all across the battlefield.
Shortly after being killed, these dead rose again, even when their ruined bodies should no longer
