Tris was rather curious about what Neville feared.
The original Neville had feared Snape most of all, and his grades in Potions Class had been abysmal as a result.
Tris did not know whether Neville was still afraid of Snape now. But Neville's Potions Class grades were excellent. He was one of only two students in all of Gryffindor who earned Outstanding on their regular assignments and exams.
It was absurd.
Tris had no idea where the change had come from, so now he wanted to see whether Neville's Boggart had changed too.
Neville stepped forward, looking a little awkward and seemingly uneasy.
The Boggart, which had turned into an earthworm severed in two for the previous student, immediately pulled itself back together. But what happened next took everyone by surprise.
The Boggart rapidly switched between a spider, a basilisk, a mummy, and other things it had previously become, yet it never settled into a definite shape.
"What's going on?" Blaise asked in puzzlement. "Why isn't the Boggart transforming?"
"Could Neville be afraid of so many things that the Boggart doesn't know which one to choose?" Theodore asked, confused.
"No." Tris shook his head, a strange gleam flickering in his eyes as he looked at Neville.
Boggarts did not dig out a person's deepest fear before transforming. Usually, something close enough would do. Since Boggarts generally lived in dark, unlit places, people entering those places would naturally have a few fearful thoughts.
A Boggart usually caught that fleeting moment of fear and transformed accordingly.
In other words, a Boggart did not struggle to choose what to turn into.
That made things interesting.
"This is extraordinary." Osgilia's eyes shone just like Tris's. He tapped the large wardrobe lightly. Its door sprang open and sucked the Boggart inside. Only then did he
