| Ninth-stage Dou Qi — apparent cultivation | 2 | Xiao Yan praises her progress and expects her to reach Dou Zhe by the following Coming-of-Age Ceremony. Her ability to detect concealed guards later makes Xiao Yan question whether this level is a disguise 11. |
| One-Star Dou Zhe — reported breakthrough | 25 | Xiao Yan retrospectively places this breakthrough two months before the Coming-of-Age Ceremony. No cultivation method or breakthrough scene is shown. |
| Two-Star Dou Zhe — publicly demonstrated | 25 | At the ceremony, she and Xiao Yan are the only juniors at this level. Xiao Yan still suspects that Xun'er is concealing her actual cultivation. |
Background / History
Xun'er grew close to Xiao Yan while living in the Xiao Clan without her parents nearby. Believing the younger girl lacked someone to look after her, Xiao Yan cared for her and even asked Xiao Zhan to adopt her; the adoption never happened. When Xiao Yan's cultivation collapsed and most of her friendships faded, Xun'er remained beside her without regard for her strength 5 10.
Her Gu Clan background gives her access to resources and protection far beyond the Xiao Clan's means. Xiao Zhan already recognizes that her connections exceed Nalan Yan's, while Xiao Yan only gradually understands their scale through her bank cards, beast-flame gifts, and heavenly flame. Xun'er expects to return home for training once she reaches Dou Wang, but has not yet wanted to end her time away from the Ancient Realm 4 9 24 25.
Appearance
- Dress: Usually wears green or blue-green clothing, including a pale-green outfit with a ribbon cinching her slender waist 2 6 10.
- Hair: Dark; she idly twirls a strand around her finger while receiving a report 18.
- Eyes: Described as clear as autumn waters; small golden flames appear in them when she warns Ge Ye 6.
- Bearing and voice: Has understated, lotus-like elegance and a clear, lilting voice 5 27.
Personality
Xun'er is outwardly gentle and amiable, but her politeness usually maintains a distance from other Xiao Clan members. With Xiao Yan, that reserve softens: she links arms with her, becomes lively while shopping, and notices changes in her mood. She avoids reopening the subject of the broken engagement while treating Xiao Yan's injury, and accepts that Xiao Yan may have reasons for withholding details about her training 9 10 11 23.
Her loyalty has a possessive and potentially ruthless side. She considers making the Nalan Family disappear, restraining herself partly because Xiao Yan might discover the intervention and become upset. She also sulks when Xiao Yan prepares to leave, despite knowing the journey is legitimate. The author explicitly describes her as having a slight “yandere” streak and possessiveness that she is still too young to fully recognize 18 27 50.
Abilities & Skills
Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame
- Possesses the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame, which accelerates her cultivation more effectively than Jia Nan Academy's Fallen Heart Flame 25.
- Its aura makes Apothecary's eleventh-ranked Bone Spirit Cold Flame feel fear, establishing the much greater power of Xun'er's flame 24.
- A tiny manifestation in her eyes terrifies Ge Ye into fleeing with Nalan Yan and his fellow disciple; no direct attack is shown 6.
Perception and Flame Knowledge
- Detects three marketplace guards skilled at concealing themselves, despite apparently being only at ninth-stage Dou Qi 11.
- Recognizes that Xiao Yan's flame combines characteristics from three different beast flames 25.
- Infers that Xiao Yan is practicing a secret fire-control art, but does not identify the Flame Mantra as the source of the fusion 25.
- Keeps her discovery private while continuing to supply flames 25.
Influence and Covert Coordination
- Silences the Xiao Clan's elders when they try to prevent Xiao Yan from speaking for herself during the engagement dispute 5.
- Uses Aunt Ling to investigate matters and arrange resource purchases without openly exposing her involvement 18 23 26.
- Has backing described as capable of mobilizing Dou Sheng experts, though no such deployment occurs in the supplied events 18.
- Quietly spreads rumors that she avenges Xiao Yan's mistreatment, using them as a deterrent against harassment 10.
Alchemy Limitation
- Wants to become an alchemist, but her Dou Qi is pure fire and contains no wood qi 23.
- Lacks the required fire-primary, wood-secondary attribute combination, preventing her from pursuing alchemy 8 23.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Five-Patterned Purple-Gold Cards — Owns several and gives one to Xiao Yan without expecting repayment. Such cards normally require Dou Ling strength or qualification through an exceptional power; possession alone does not establish Xun'er's realm 9.
- Black Card — Provides a less conspicuous alternative after Xiao Yan objects to using the Purple-Gold Card publicly. The Black Card contains five thousand gold coins 10 12.
- Fourth-tier healing ointment — Personally applies it to Xiao Yan's injured hand; the wound is nearly healed the next morning 9 10.
- Beast flames supplied to Xiao Yan — Arranges a gentle fifth-tier peach blossom flame from a Kui Mu Beast, then supplies mostly fourth-rank flames and a few mild fifth-tier flames suited to Xiao Yan's strength 23 24 26.
Relationships
- Xiao Yan — Childhood best friend whom she addresses as “Sister Xiao Yan” or “Big Sister Xiao Yan.” Xun'er's feelings are explicitly described as extending beyond friendship, while Xiao Yan regards her as her only close friend and worries that their unequal backgrounds may eventually separate them 2 18 24.
- Aunt Ling — Trusted subordinate whom she tasks with investigations and procuring beast flames. Aunt Ling also voices concern when Xun'er discusses extreme retaliation against the Nalan Family 18 23 26.
- Xiao Zhan — Xiao Clan leader who knows her background is formidable. Xiao Yan once urged him to adopt Xun'er, but he did not do so 4 5.
- Nalan Yan — Regards him as an unsuitable match for Xiao Yan and resents the humiliation he causes her. Later offers to help Xiao Yan defeat him within the three-year agreement 9 27.
- Nalan Jie — Secretly informs him of Xiao Yan's restored talent to prompt a visit and help Xiao Yan vent her anger. His Brand Poison delays the visit beyond Xun'er's expectations 18.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Engagement Dispute and Early Recovery
- Defends Xiao Yan's right to handle her own engagement, then warns the departing Misty Cloud Sect visitors that their sect is not invincible 5 6.
- Funds the ingredients Xiao Yan needs after becoming Apothecary's disciple, providing practical support without demanding an explanation or repayment 9 10.
- Continues spending time with Xiao Yan during her recovery; the two periodically take days off to eat and shop in Wutan City 16.
Beast-Flame Support
- Has the Xiao Clan elders unknowingly purchase a fifth-tier peach blossom flame while believing it is an affordable third-tier flame 23.
- Her careful choice of a gentle flame reveals both the scale of her resources and her attention to Xiao Yan's needs 24.
- Once her involvement becomes apparent, supplies flames openly, helping the Flame Mantra reach high Yellow Tier 25.
- Stops supplying them after Xiao Yan declines further gifts: additional flames no longer improve the technique enough to justify their control and cultivation drawbacks 26.
Academy Decision and Farewell
- Declines Jia Nan Academy when Xiao Yan chooses not to enroll. For Xun'er, the academy's cultivation benefits are less important than attending with her friend 25.
- Initially tries to persuade Xiao Yan to train at home, then accepts her promise to return within one or two years and attend Jia Nan Academy together 27.
- Insists on accompanying Xiao Yan to the Flying Magical Beast Transit Point. Before departing, Xiao Yan asks her to look after the Xiao Clan 27 28.
Notable Quotes
“Elders, Big Sister Xiao Yan is the person involved. You should stay out of this.” 5
“I believe you'll definitely break through to Dou Sheng, Big Sister Xiao Yan.” 25
Trivia
- The initial premise describes Xun'er as Xiao Yan's childhood best friend; later narration and author notes explicitly introduce feelings beyond friendship and a secure heroine role 1 18 50.
- The author identifies her resource support as a major reason for Xiao Yan's unusually rapid growth. Because both are girls in this version, Xun'er's guardians tolerate assistance that would have attracted troublesome scrutiny in the original relationship 23 33.
- Her eventual return to the Gu Clan and reduced subsequent page time are authorial plans, not events shown in the supplied narrative 50.
