Su Er spent the entire afternoon in Professor Flitwick's office practicing the wand movements for the Patronus Charm. It was tiring, utterly exhausting, so much so that his wrist eventually ached terribly.

Flitwick was a conscientious, attentive professor. During their break, he explained the several stages of the Patronus Charm to Su Er.

They were the initial mist, the vaguely emerging shape, and finally the complete body. As for whether there was room to develop beyond that, Professor Flitwick did not mention it.

Most wizards never got past the initial mist. Those who could summon a corporeal Patronus were few and far between.

Only a fully formed Patronus could bring its powerful defensive abilities fully into play.

That was right: the Patronus Charm was defensive magic, something that should have fallen within the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor's teaching remit.

But... the less said about that, the better.

It had been a hugely rewarding afternoon. Professor Flitwick's lively, engaging explanations had taught Su Er a great deal.

Although they had not yet reached the point of casting the spell, his understanding of the Patronus Charm was no longer confined to what he had read. Wasn't one-on-one instruction from a professor better than puzzling it out on his own?

Animagus training was the exception. He had heard that every Animagus registered with the Ministry of Magic had to receive a mark from the Ministry.

This was a trump card that could save his life. He absolutely could not reveal it to anyone except those closest to him!

After arranging to return the next day to practice with Professor Flitwick, Su Er left the professor's office and headed for the Great Hall.

Time to eat!
