Perhaps the depths of the Forbidden Forest gave the two unicorns a sense of safety. Neither noticed the venomous snake lying in the undergrowth nearby.
Su Er crouched quietly on a branch, watching the two unicorn foals whinny and bound into the stream to play. Even when they tired of playing and lowered their heads to drink, no adult unicorn had appeared.
This made no sense, yet somehow it also seemed reasonable.
Who said there were no little troublemakers among unicorns? After all, the vast majority of fantastic beasts were quite intelligent.
Then Barty Crouch made his move. From his elevated position, Su Er could see everything Barty Crouch did.
He drew his wand without reciting an incantation. The two unicorns noticed nothing behind them and kept their heads down, drinking obliviously and occasionally bumping heads.
Suddenly, the spell struck both unicorns directly. Unicorns possessed a degree of magical immunity. Although they were not as tough as giants or mountain trolls, an ordinary wizard could not break through their defenses. Of course, that applied to adult unicorns.
These two foals were still growing and could not withstand a magical attack from an adult wizard.
Especially a veteran practitioner of dark magic. Just because Braised Egg had a bunch of desperadoes under him did not mean they were all brainless idiots who knew nothing but Avada Kedavra. Barty Crouch was proof enough: his ability to impersonate Moody flawlessly proved he had brains.
And he was cautious enough.
Even after succeeding, Barty Crouch remained quietly prone in the undergrowth, showing no intention of emerging.
The moonlight gradually slanted. Su Er could not help yawning.
Only after apparently confirming that there really was no danger and no adult unicorn would come running out did Barty Crouch get up. Seemingly stiff from lying there
