Unfortunately, since Su Er's home was in a Muggle neighborhood, he had received no further issues of the Daily Prophet after Hermione left school and returned home for the holidays.
Apart from the first day's issue, though, the subsequent papers had been nothing but pages of drivel.
Oh, that meant the articles commissioned by the minister who was still playing dumb even though the facts were already perfectly clear.
In short, those days' issues of the Daily Prophet gave Su Er the impression of someone protesting far too much, leaving him unsure whether to laugh or cry.
Still, the Daily Prophet ultimately belonged to the Ministry of Magic. Although Dumbledore had considerable influence in the wizarding world, he could hardly compare with Fudge, who was frantically planting his own people in every Ministry post. The later reports made it perfectly clear that Dumbledore was beginning to lose a little ground in this battle of public opinion.
Fudge really was sparing no effort to polish his record in office.
Su Er couldn't help shaking his head.
Painting a false picture of peace was the greatest lie of all, and a single move from His Highness Braised Egg would be enough to expose it.
The resulting fallout would magnify Fudge's mistakes endlessly. A ruined reputation would be the least of it; he might even end up spending some time in prison. Why bother?
"What are you thinking about? Why have you been reading for so long?" Although Hermione had been reading all along, at least half her attention had been on Su Er. Seeing him stare into space, she couldn't help speaking up.
"Oh, oh, I'm finished." Su Er came back to himself, folded the paper, and set it on the table.
"Did you really see Voldemort that night?" Hermione asked curiously.
