Ch. 641Lupin and Tonks's wedding

Su Er and Hermione attended Remus Lupin and Tonks’s wedding at 12 Grimmauld Place, where the Order later discussed moving Harry before his protective charm expired. The chapter ended with Su Er and several others volunteering for the dangerous operation to protect Harry.

  • Su Er and Hermione talked about Lupin and Tonks’s upcoming wedding and their own future marriage at home on Lily Street.
  • Su Er and Hermione arrived at 12 Grimmauld Place on July 20 and joined the small gathering for Lupin and Tonks’s wedding.
  • Lupin and Tonks exchanged rings in a brief ceremony attended by their friends and family, then celebrated with a lavish lunch.
  • Moody explained that Harry had to be moved before his protection ended on his birthday, and that Voldemort would likely attack during the operation.
  • Kingsley, Fred, George, Lupin, Tonks, Sirius, and Su Er agreed to take part in the dangerous mission.

Ch. 642The relocation operation

Su Er arranged for the Dursleys to leave Britain before the Order of the Phoenix arrived to move Harry. As Moody explained the altered escape plan, Sirius prepared Polyjuice Potion and asked for hair.

  • Su Er told the Dursleys that Harry’s protection would expire and persuaded them to leave for France.
  • The Dursleys drove away, and Su Er told Harry to pack and release Hedwig to Hogwarts.
  • Hagrid arrived with Sirius and the Order members, and Harry greeted them.
  • Hagrid told Su Er that someone had broken into Hogwarts, and they agreed the intruders had not spotted him.
  • Moody explained that Pius Thicknesse’s betrayal forced them to use nonmagical transport to move Harry.
  • Sirius produced bottles of potion and asked everyone for a few hairs.

Ch. 643Aerial combat

Su Er joined the Order’s plan to escort Harry from the Dursley residence, disguised as one of the seven Potters. The Death Eaters ambushed the group as they took off, and Su Er and Moody fought off their pursuers while the other Potters scattered.

  • Su Er drank the Polyjuice Potion, revealed his disguise device to Harry, and joined Moody’s broom group while Harry rode with Hagrid.
  • The seven Potters and their escorts left the Dursley residence together, but Death Eaters attacked them with Killing Curses as they rose into the night.
  • Su Er used an Exploding Charm and a forked Stunning Spell to knock Death Eaters from their brooms while Moody evaded the curses.
  • After the Potters scattered, four Death Eaters pursued Su Er and Moody, and Su Er killed one with Sectumsempra.
  • Moody led their three remaining pursuers into a cloud and then above it, where Su Er and Moody stunned all three and sent them falling into the darkness.

Ch. 644Gravely wounded Sirius, a long-held wish for revenge

Su Er and Moody escaped an ambush at their destination, where Mundungus Fletcher betrayed them and Moody narrowly avoided several Killing Curses. The Order reunited at the safe house, but George had lost an ear and Sirius was gravely wounded after Snape and Bellatrix attacked them.

  • Su Er recognized Mundungus Fletcher’s betrayal and warned Moody as Mundungus prepared to attack, but Death Eaters burst in and fired Killing Curses.
  • Moody grabbed the Portkey, and Su Er helped him escape to the safe house, where Hermione verified Su Er’s identity and welcomed him back.
  • Moody told the others that someone had betrayed their plan, while Lupin reported that George and Sirius had not returned yet.
  • George and Sirius arrived covered in blood, and George revealed that Snape and Bellatrix had ambushed them on their brooms.
  • Lupin examined Sirius’s deep chest wound, whose black vapor showed it had been caused by an unusual spell.

Ch. 645The time had come

Harry identified Snape’s Sectumsempra as the spell that wounded Sirius and George, and his countercurse healed them. Su Er learned Voldemort had attacked the Austrian Ministry archives and suspected he was seeking Grindelwald and the Elder Wand, while Bill and Pheobe’s wedding approached.

  • Harry found Snape’s Advanced Potion-Making book and used the listed countercurse to heal George and Sirius.
  • Sirius recovered after a night of sleep, and Su Er learned Voldemort had not appeared because the Austrian Ministry archives had been attacked.
  • Su Er suspected Voldemort had gone after Grindelwald and the Elder Wand, and considered the possibility that Grindelwald and Dumbledore might stand against him.
  • Fred and George showed Su Er their wedding clothes, while George remained unable to regrow his ear.
  • Bill and Pheobe’s wedding took place on August first, and Fawkes appeared in Su Er and Hermione’s tent the night before.

Ch. 646Scamander's cameo

Su Er left Hermione and followed Fawkes through Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, where Snape and Aberforth helped him escape. Newt Scamander smuggled Su Er into Germany under a false identity and sent him toward Monschau for the next part of Dumbledore’s plan.

  • Su Er warned Hermione to stay close to the Order of the Phoenix if danger arose, then left with Fawkes and asked her to keep his departure secret.
  • Fawkes brought Su Er to Hogwarts, where Snape showed him a hidden passage after Su Er noticed the Elder Wand.
  • Aberforth gave Su Er a Portkey and warned him that Death Eaters were watching Hogsmeade.
  • Su Er arrived at a cliff and met Newt Scamander, who prepared a false identity and Polyjuice Potion for him.
  • Disguised as Rodolphe Mathil, Su Er passed inspection with Newt and reached the Ministry of Magic in Berlin.
  • Newt directed Su Er to travel by Muggle train to Monschau and find its largest church.

Ch. 647McDuff

Su Er traveled from Berlin to western Germany in search of Monschau and was picked up at the station by McDuff, who had been waiting for him on Rosier’s orders. When Su Er recognized McDuff as one of the Saints, McDuff sped off with his attention still turned toward him.

  • Su Er escaped the Ministry of Magic in Berlin by motorcycle, changed into Muggle clothes, and rode a train west without paying.
  • After arriving in North Rhine-Westphalia, Su Er asked people for directions to Monschau but could not find anyone who knew the way.
  • McDuff waited at the station for someone sent by Rosier, and Su Er accidentally asked him for directions.
  • McDuff recognized Su Er as the person he had been sent to collect and led him to an old truck.
  • McDuff introduced himself as Old Mac and complained that Rosier’s errand had cost him a drinking session and delayed feeding his animals.
  • Su Er realized McDuff belonged to the Saints, and McDuff accelerated while looking back at him, prompting Su Er to warn him about people ahead.

Ch. 648Grindelwald freed from his confines

Su Er reached Monschau and met Grindelwald, who explained how he and Dumbledore had escaped death by splitting their souls with the Resurrection Stone and Elder Wand. Grindelwald hinted that Su Er’s own wand could help repeat the process, but left its significance for Su Er to recall.

  • McDuff drove Su Er to Monschau and told him that Ms. Rosier had been waiting for him.
  • Rosier led Su Er through the church and brought him to Grindelwald, who said he now called himself Walton Gridlerod.
  • Grindelwald explained that the body killed by Voldemort had held only part of his soul, while he had escaped death through a ritual arranged with Dumbledore.
  • Grindelwald said the ritual used the Resurrection Stone, the Elder Wand, and a modified Horcrux method that spent magic rather than life.
  • When Su Er questioned how the ritual could work without the Elder Wand, Grindelwald said Su Er’s wand had the necessary nature and asked him to remember what its seller had said.

Ch. 649Return

Su Er studied Grindelwald’s book on ritual magic and learned the reason for Dumbledore’s weakness before returning to Britain with Rosier and the elderly former Saints. He found the Burrow under Ministry surveillance, while Hermione waited there and glimpsed a black-and-white badger on the nearby hillside.

  • Grindelwald told Su Er to study the book, learn its spell, and memorize the ritual because Grindelwald could no longer perform it himself.
  • During his stay in Monschau, Su Er learned where the other half of Dumbledore’s soul was and why Dumbledore had been weak.
  • On August fifteenth, Su Er arrived at Heathrow with Rosier and a group of former Saints, and they planned to help someone take control of the Ministry when the time was right.
  • Su Er went to a hillside overlooking the Burrow and saw that its protections were gone and Ministry figures were watching it.
  • Hermione remembered the Ministry’s fall and Su Er’s warning to stay at the Burrow, then glimpsed a black-and-white badger on the hillside.

Ch. 650See you at Hogwarts

Su Er secretly visited Hermione at the Burrow and learned that the Order of the Phoenix planned to keep Harry away from Hogwarts. He told Hermione that Snape was still on their side and that Harry had to return to school, then left to persuade the Order.

  • Hermione worried about Harry and the others while the Weasleys remained under watch at the Burrow.
  • Su Er slipped into the Burrow in his Animagus form and secretly found Hermione in her room.
  • Hermione told Su Er that Harry, Ron, and Ginny had left, and that the Order of the Phoenix wanted Harry to take time off school.
  • Su Er told Hermione that Snape had killed Dumbledore to gain Voldemort's trust and would not become Headmaster when term began.
  • Su Er said he would go to the Order and tell them Dumbledore had left a contingency at Hogwarts, then promised to see Hermione there.

Ch. 651I object

Su Er and Moody planned Harry’s secret return to Hogwarts while Su Er disguised himself as Filch to attend the opening feast. Snape became headmaster, and an unknown speaker objected in the Great Hall.

  • Su Er told Moody that Harry had to return to Hogwarts for Dumbledore’s plans and asked him to escort Harry through the secret passage from the Shrieking Shack.
  • Su Er said he would enter Hogwarts disguised as Filch and coordinate with Professor McGonagall to stage his arrival.
  • On the Hogwarts Express, Death Eaters patrolled the silent carriages while Hermione watched the moon rise.
  • Su Er, disguised as Filch, brought the first-years to Hogwarts and saw that Harry was missing from the Great Hall.
  • Professor McGonagall introduced Snape as headmaster, and a voice from the back of the Great Hall called out, “I object.”

Ch. 652Snape on the Run

Su Er revealed himself at Hogwarts and helped drive Snape from the headmaster’s office, then explained Dumbledore’s plan to the Order of the Phoenix. The Order prepared for Voldemort’s attack, which Su Er expected to begin the next day.

  • Su Er revealed his identity in the Great Hall and challenged Snape’s appointment as Hogwarts headmaster.
  • Moody, Harry, the Order of the Phoenix, and many students joined Su Er, while Professor Flitwick and Professor McGonagall pretended to attack Snape and let him escape as gray mist.
  • The students cheered Snape’s departure, and Hermione embraced Su Er before Professor McGonagall restored order.
  • Su Er told the Order that Dumbledore had arranged Snape’s apparent victory and death so Voldemort would dare attack Hogwarts, and asked them to keep the plan from Harry.
  • Su Er warned Sirius not to meet Harry and said Voldemort would likely make his move the next day.

Ch. 653We don't want to be cowards

Su Er and the Order of the Phoenix captured Draco Malfoy and six Death Eaters after monitoring the Castle, then prepared Hogwarts for Voldemort’s coming attack. As students demanded a chance to defend their home, Hagrid reported that a large force of Death Eaters had gathered outside the Castle.

  • Su Er asked the former Hogwarts headmasters in their portraits to watch the Castle and Draco Malfoy, and they reported that a door had appeared by the tapestry on the seventh floor.
  • Su Er asked Hermione to alert Moody, the Order of the Phoenix, and the professors, and they lured Draco Malfoy and six Death Eaters into a trap.
  • At dawn, Professor McGonagall told the students that war was coming, suspended classes, and assigned professors, Order members, and centaurs to defend Hogwarts.
  • Neville Longbottom, Morn, and Harry argued that the students should help defend Hogwarts, and many others agreed.
  • Hagrid rushed into the Great Hall and reported that a large group of Death Eaters had gathered outside the Castle.

Ch. 654I'll only give you until noon

Before dawn, Su Er resurrected Dumbledore with the Resurrection Stone, and the two confirmed that events were unfolding as planned. In the Great Hall, Voldemort demanded that Harry be brought to the Forbidden Forest by noon, and Su Er stopped the students from fighting as some Slytherins tried to seize Harry.

  • Su Er used the Resurrection Stone at dawn to bring Dumbledore back to life, and they agreed that the next move depended on Harry.
  • After Hagrid announced that Voldemort had reached Hogsmeade, Crabbe and Goyle praised the Dark Lord, prompting a confrontation among the students.
  • Professor McGonagall warned the students about the danger and offered them the chance to leave, but many chose to stay and defend Hogwarts.
  • Voldemort spoke through the Great Hall, gave the school until noon to deliver Harry to the Forbidden Forest, and threatened those who resisted.
  • Crabbe and Goyle rallied Slytherins to capture Harry, but Su Er immobilized both sides and challenged the Slytherins to consider whether they all supported that choice.

Ch. 655I do

As Hogwarts prepared for Voldemort’s attack, Su Er helped organize the defense and revealed to Harry that he was Aibo Nokhan, then told Harry to do what he ought to do. Before joining the defenders, Su Er proposed to Hermione, and she accepted.

  • Su Er put down the Slytherin rebellion and left Professor McGonagall to persuade students to evacuate and organize the Castle’s defenses.
  • Professor Flitwick prepared the Great Hall as a field hospital, Hagrid led the evacuees, and Lisi, Professor Sprout, and students prepared defensive positions and weapons.
  • Su Er gave Harry a box from Dumbledore and revealed that he was Aibo Nokhan, while Hermione explained he had been with them all along.
  • Su Er told Harry to do what he ought to do, then left the Great Hall with Hermione as dark clouds gathered over Hogsmeade.
  • Su Er proposed to Hermione in the Entrance Hall, and Hermione accepted.

Ch. 656The war began! Piertotum Locomotor!

Professor McGonagall awakened Hogwarts’ statues and suits of armor as the school’s defenders prepared for Voldemort’s assault. The barrier held against the first attack, but Dementors passed through, and as reinforcements arrived, Su Er spotted Voldemort watching from a hillside.

  • Professor McGonagall cast Piertotum Locomotor, sending Hogwarts’ statues and suits of armor to guard the grounds.
  • Voldemort warned Hogwarts that resistance would bring death, then his army attacked the protective dome with spells and dark creatures.
  • The defenders summoned Patronuses to repel the Dementors while Death Eaters renewed their assault on the dome.
  • Cedric Diggory led about twenty former students to Hogwarts, where Professor McGonagall directed them into the battle.
  • Su Er saw Voldemort on a hillside outside the Castle, apparently angry as another black-robed figure spoke to him.

Ch. 657Battle begins (1)

Su Er joined the defenders at Hogwarts as Voldemort shattered their magical barrier and sent an Inferi horde into battle. After Su Er’s Fiendfyre-like spell burned through the attackers, he discovered that the apparent Death Eaters were under the Imperius Curse, and Moody ordered the defenders to retreat to the castle before the giants entered the fight.

  • Su Er reunited with Cedric and learned that Yumis Molnar and a Ministry vanguard had arrived through the fireplaces, while Amelia stayed behind to organize reinforcements.
  • Voldemort shattered the barrier, and Inferi charged the defenders as green spells flickered behind them.
  • Moody, Remus, Sirius, and other defenders tried freezing, burning, exploding, and severing the Inferi, but more kept filling their ranks.
  • Su Er summoned an enormous icy-blue fiery badger that turned swaths of Inferi to ash and eased the defenders’ pressure.
  • Su Er and the others began fighting the wizards behind the Inferi, and he realized the black-robed attackers were being controlled by the Imperius Curse.
  • Moody ordered the defenders to retreat to the castle and guard its other entrances before the giants joined the battle.

Ch. 658Battle begins (2)

Su Er helped defend Hogwarts’ western and southern entrances as Voldemort’s forces attacked with Death Eaters, Inferi, and a giant. He and Professor Flitwick evacuated the defenders, then destroyed the covered bridge with the giant still on it.

  • Su Er saved Fred from a Killing Curse, and Fred incapacitated the Death Eater with an upgraded Dungbomb.
  • Su Er reached Hermione’s sector and used icy blue flames to destroy Inferi attacking the bridge.
  • Su Er warned Professor Flitwick that Voldemort had split his forces across the other exits and urged him to destroy the bridge and retreat.
  • A giant climbed onto the bridge as Death Eaters attacked; Su Er, Flitwick, and Hermione held up a shield while the defenders evacuated with the wounded.
  • After the others withdrew, Su Er, Hermione, and Flitwick retreated to the Castle entrance, where Flitwick blasted apart the bridge, sending the Inferi and giant plunging down.

Ch. 659War began (3)

As Voldemort gave Hogwarts half an hour to surrender Harry Potter, Ministry reinforcements arrived and Su Er caught Harry leaving the Great Hall to face Voldemort alone. Su Er gave Harry a memory to view and explained how to use the Resurrection Stone before Harry continued toward his confrontation.

  • Madam Pomfrey treated the wounded as Professor McGonagall told Su Er that the castle had only one entrance left and asked about the Ministry.
  • Voldemort announced that his forces had withdrawn to the Forbidden Forest and gave Hogwarts thirty minutes to hand over Harry, threatening those who protected him.
  • Su Er saw Harry distressed beside the injured Ron, who had saved Harry’s life.
  • Mr. Filch announced the arrival of Amelia Bones and Ministry reinforcements, who had retaken the Ministry and began planning with Professor McGonagall and Alastor Moody.
  • Harry slipped out of the Great Hall, and Su Er followed him and urged him to open the wooden box he had given him.
  • Su Er told Harry that the box contained a memory and the Resurrection Stone, explaining how to view the memory and use the stone.

Ch. 660War begins (4)

Harry learned that he was a Horcrux and left to face Voldemort, who then claimed Harry was dead and brought him before the defenders at Hogwarts. When the crowd refused to surrender, Voldemort blocked their spells and ordered Nagini to kill Neville and then Harry.

  • Harry asked Su Er if he was a Horcrux, learned that Dumbledore had kept the truth from him, and left under his Invisibility Cloak.
  • Voldemort announced that Harry was dead, and Snape carried Harry's body before the people gathered outside Hogwarts.
  • Voldemort demanded that the defenders kneel or die, but Neville stepped forward and defied him.
  • The defenders attacked Voldemort, who blocked every spell with a shield cast using the Elder Wand.
  • Voldemort ordered Nagini to kill Neville and then eat Harry.
