John plunged the sword in his hand into the ground beneath his feet.

The Garden of Eden burst into flames.

In this legendary place, gold melted, agate charred, and pearls turned into droplets of water.

"You are searching for fate, Wizard." God's voice sounded like a woman's, yet it could also have been a man's. "That is why you have done all this."

"You understand perfectly well, so you should know better than to do this."

A wand in his left hand, a sword in his right.

Dressed in an ornate green wizard robe, John smiled. "You are imitating fate, God."

"No, I should call you the Lord of Heaven, the banished Tenth Realm."

John's words angered God.

The trees beneath his feet grew wildly, reaching out to entangle him.

John merely swung the Flaming Sword, turning every tree that approached into charcoal.

God sent lightning crashing down.

John caught the lightning with his wand and hurled it back.

"I saw it."

John said, "Humans possess something you cannot control."

"God cannot create a stone God cannot lift." John chuckled. "Are you truly humanity's creator?"

"Or are you merely playing the part of fate, high above everyone else?"

John exhaled a gust of wind. Chaos particles flew from his wand, sweeping up the golden flames and forming a giant fiery serpent.

"If you are the creator of everything, then you would not reject magic."

John waved his wand. "Fiendfyre!"

The giant serpent sprouted three heads, all watching hungrily.

"Let there be water."

God performed a miracle.

Heavy rain fell from the sky.

Yet it could not extinguish the flames.

Everywhere the giant serpent passed became a sea of fire.

"If you were omniscient and omnipotent, you would never have allowed a witch like Agnes to exist."

John Apparated behind God
