A fierce battle broke out in the apartment, with roars and the clash of weapons ringing out now and then. Yang Bo's expression darkened. He wondered if these two vampires were gay together.

Their strength and teamwork were both impressive. Even wielding two weapons, he had taken a hit that dealt 6 damage. He only had 20 health in total, which meant he could survive just four hits at this rate.

I still need to be careful...

Before the two vampires could launch another attack, Yang Bo charged first. This time, he didn't dare jump. With nothing to push off against in midair, that would practically be suicide.

"Need a hand?"

Blade's voice came from the doorway. He wore a strange expression as he watched Yang Bo struggle.

Judging by the force with which Yang Bo swung that strange Stone Axe, Blade thought a blow to a vampire's head should have killed it outright. Yet after taking an axe blow, the vampires were still full of life. The damage was completely out of proportion to the power behind his swings.

Everything about Yang Bo struck him as strange, from his ability to "open doors" to his attacks now.

Yang Bo kept his hands moving as he replied, "I need to kill them myself!"

He didn't elaborate while fighting. The instant the two vampires saw Blade, terror appeared on their faces. Reputation carried weight, after all, and Blade's name was notorious among vampires.

Kick them while they're down!

The Stone Axe slammed into one vampire's head. Although there was no weak-point bonus to increase the damage, the blow could still leave the vampire dazed for a while.

With Blade there to intimidate them, Yang Bo killed both vampires while taking only one more hit. He picked up the drops from the floor, put away the Stone Axe, and breathed a sigh of relief, a smile spreading across his face.

Whew, I can finally level up!

His luck had been excellent. The four vampires had dropped three bottles of vampire blood. Together with the two bottles in his inventory, that was enough to take him straight to level one!

Turning toward Blade in the doorway, Yang Bo said, "Uh... let me clean up the scene. Just give me a moment!"

Blade was about to warn him that the police would arrive soon, but then he watched Yang Bo take the Stone Axe he'd just used to hack at the vampires and start striking the furniture around the room. In the blink of an eye, every piece of furniture had vanished.

His mouth fell open in astonishment. When he'd first come in, he'd wondered why the living room was so empty. Now he knew exactly why.

Looking at all the furniture in his inventory, Yang Bo walked to the doorway and said, "All done. Let's go. Do you have any information on other vampires? Since I've got time today, I can work for free..."

Even Blade, who had seen his share of upheaval, couldn't help marveling at Yang Bo's words as he glanced at the empty room.

Absolutely fucking shameless!

"I don't have any new information on vampires right now. Usually, once I get a lead, I go straight over and take care of them!"

"Even if you hadn't called me today, the vampires here wouldn't have survived until tonight!"

When it came to vampires, Blade's principle was to wipe them out completely. The only good vampire was a dead vampire. Yang Bo wasn't surprised or disappointed. He merely nodded, glanced at the bright sunshine outside the window, then turned to Blade and said:

"Could you give me your phone number? I'd like to be friends!"

"Sure!"

Blade readily agreed. He had nothing against Yang Bo, who shared his goal. In fact, he was very interested in Yang Bo's unusual abilities. But they had only known each other for a day, so he didn't ask outright. Everyone had their secrets.

Blade recited a string of numbers, and Yang Bo silently committed them to memory. After reinstalling the security door, the two left.

Just after they stepped out of the building, a police car pulled up in front of the apartment with its siren blaring. The commotion upstairs must have drawn the neighbors' attention.

Walking beside Blade, Yang Bo remarked with a grin, "Good thing we're in the United States. If this were China, all the neighbors would've already come running to watch the excitement!"

Blade paused, then asked, "You're Chinese?"

Yang Bo shrugged. There was nothing to hide. "Of course!"

"Oh, right, Erik, I need to head home first, so I can't stay with you for now. Once I buy a new phone tonight, I'll call you. Then we can keep in touch by phone."

Right now, he was eager to raise his Hunter level. He also needed to go home and sort out his inventory. There wasn't any room left in it.

With that, he took out a loaf of bread and asked Blade with a smile, "Want some bread?"

"No, thanks!"

The fight had drained a great deal of Yang Bo's hunger. That was how Minecraft worked: the more strenuous the activity, the faster hunger depleted.

He ate two loaves of bread to refill his hunger completely. Seeing a taxi approaching, Yang Bo raised a hand to flag it down and said, "I'll get going, then. See you tonight!"

A little over ten minutes later, Yang Bo returned home with his haul. First, he took all the assorted clutter out of his inventory and put it in suitable places.

"Damn, these guys were pretty loaded!"

Yang Bo's eyes widened as he pulled a wad of bills from a nightstand. There had to be at least seven or eight thousand dollars. The foreigners here rarely used cash, reaching for their credit cards at every opportunity, so this much cash was an unexpected windfall.

There was also some jewelry in the drawer, apparently belonging to the female vampire. After sorting through everything, he looked at the jumble of clothes, sheets, and duvet covers on the floor and felt a headache coming on.

"If only I had some lava. I could just toss it all in and be done with it. An iron ingot would work too. I could craft Flint and Steel and burn the whole lot!"

The mention of burning drew Yang Bo's gaze to the furnace nearby, and he suddenly remembered the I-beams in his inventory.

"Since these things can't be converted directly, could I smelt them into iron nuggets or iron ingots in the furnace?"

The thought excited Yang Bo. If this method worked, he would never have to worry about a source of iron ingots again.

He walked over to the furnace and opened its interface. Nervously, he placed an I-beam from his inventory inside. When he saw the burning indicator light up, he jumped with excitement.

"It really can be smelted!"

"Now I can craft a full set of iron gear and boost my strength quite a bit!"
