"Good morning, everyone at Midtown Science High School. With the weekend starting tomorrow, I wonder if any of you have exciting plans..."
The school broadcast played live on the television. With his headset on, Peter bounded up the stairs. His math teacher, Jalen Wang, stood at the top and smiled at him with a nod. Peter waved back.
"Hey! You two!"
Mr. Wang looked kindly upon Peter, who had excellent grades. Other students didn't get quite the same treatment.
Peter stepped aside to give Mr. Wang room, watching him stop the two students behind him.
"No skateboarding in the hallways! If I catch you doing it again, I'm confiscating every last board!"
Peter shook his head, took off his headset, and headed toward his locker.

As luck would have it, a lovey-dovey couple stood right in front of Peter's locker, and he didn't know either of them.

Peter tapped the boy, who was enthusiastically sweeping his tongue over the girl's lips, twice on the shoulder. Unfortunately, the boy was far too caught up in the moment to pay him any attention.
Peter, who needed to change textbooks and get to chemistry class, was utterly speechless.
"Ah! Peter! Look! I had the worst luck this morning. A bird pooped on me when I got off the bus!"
Spotting Peter, Ned sidled over with his hand raised. On closer inspection, a sticky brown-and-white substance still clung to it.
"Oh, man, look at my hand! Quick, give me something to wipe it off!"
Ned squeezed his way over, complaining as he waved his filthy hand around.
