Gotham's nights were always shrouded in stubborn clouds, and even the moonlight carried a cold, steely gray.
Everyone at Wayne Manor had gone to bed. All was quiet except for the rustle of wind through the leaves. Warm yellow ground lights cast a gentle ring of light around the outdoor pool, where a blue-purple fish tail swayed softly beneath the water.

Perhaps because Gotham's heroes and villains had both turned out in force tonight, along with a massive deployment by the Gotham Police, fewer people were attempting crimes before they knew what was going on. After all, anyone with half a brain knew better than to walk into the line of fire.
Bruce checked Wayne Manor's security system, confirmed that everything was normal, and decided to go to bed.
Two glaring alerts suddenly appeared on the Batcomputer. Bruce frowned and looked at the surveillance screen. On the radar, two signals familiar enough to give him a headache were hurtling straight into Gotham at a suicidal speed.
