"What?"
Harley looked confused.
"What are you still clinging to? Isn't it obvious?"
Harley pointed at the two figures still kissing in the chemical vat, beside herself with excitement. "I proved my love, and Puddin’ understood it, so he softened—for me! He jumped down to save me! We love each other!"
In the chemical vat of her memories, blue and red mingled completely. Gotham's King of Crime held his newly acquired queen and burst into wild laughter.
At the sound of that crazed laughter, Harley's eyes filled with adoration again.
"Listen to how happy he is! Puddin’ just wanted someone who would love him unwaveringly, who would always be on his side. Nobody else passed the test. Only me!"
Harley lifted her chin proudly. "I'm the only one who loves Puddin’ the most. I passed every test! I proved I deserved to stand by his side!"
"Yes, you did." As though soothing a toddler, "Harleen" patiently guided her thoughts. "But did he prove it?"
"Wh... what?" Harley could hardly believe her ears. "Prove it? Prove what? I've already proved... you mean Puddin’? What does he need to prove?"
"You proved your love. You proved you deserved to stand by his side." "Harleen" stroked the ends of Harley's hair, a trace of pity in her expression. "What about him? Did he prove his love? Did he prove he deserved to stand by your side?"
Harley froze.
She had never considered that question. All along, she had been the one chasing Puddin’, begging him. So no matter what Puddin’ did to her, she believed it was a test.
She only had to pass Puddin’s tests...
She only had to prove her love...
She only had to...
As long as Puddin’ was willing to love her...
That was enough...
Her love was so
