"This astronomical telescope really is impressive! If we could install it in castles and aboard ships, it should prove even more useful!"
Danyla spoke to Doctor Waghram as she carefully surveyed the surroundings of Oldtown through the telescope.
"Doctor Waghram, could you make a telescope like this for the Red Keep and another for my future Holy Flame Castle?"
"Of course, you may name whatever terms you require!"
Doctor Waghram replied with a smile that did not reach his eyes.
"This astronomical telescope cost a great deal, but I only use it to observe the stars and determine the changes of the seasons."
"So there is really no need for Your Highness to waste manpower and money making two more. After all, many of the people of the Seven Kingdoms still live in dire misery."
"If Your Highness wants some amusement, you are welcome to ride your dragon here and look through mine to your heart's content!"
"Hahaha!"
Danyla had finally experienced the eloquence of these learned men firsthand. Their skill at moral blackmail and twisting the truth was even more practiced than hers!
"Waghram, as the highly respected head of the Citadel, you should not let yourself be swayed by hearsay! I, Danyla Targaryen, am not someone who delights in frivolity and pleasure. If you can name a place where the common people live more comfortably than those in my White Sheep Town, I will never mention the astronomical telescopes again!"
Danyla's words left him speechless.
"Besides, the Citadel has always maintained that maesters should devote their lives to serving the realm and its people. Then it should put their wisdom to work for the people's benefit, rather than use so-called rules and traditions to obstruct proposals intended to accomplish something useful for them. Wouldn't you agree, Doctor Waharam?!"
