Known Personnel and Associates
| Name / Unit | Position or Connection | Fate |
|---|---|---|
| Mentor | Central figure connected to SRO-7’s operations and its pursuit of the narrator; uses technological models to assess the narrator’s attacks 19 23 29 | Killed by the narrator with the Death Note after confronting them in person 33 34 35 |
| Carl Ryan — “Shepherd” | Chief instructor responsible for training and deploying frontline operatives 23 | Killed by the training base’s own Broken Blade security protocol 23 |
| “Sheepdogs” | Agent designation used for active and reserve operatives at the training base 23 | Receive Ryan’s final directive; individual outcomes are not specified 23 |
| Night Watchman | Three-member oversight team answering directly to the highest level, outside SRO-7’s regular structure 30 | Members kill one another during a compromised security review 30 |
| Lina Adler | Retired chief behavioral analyst; internally rumored to have been Mentor’s first teacher and early protector 31 | Killed through the activation of implanted nanobots 31 |
| Archibald Winters | Congressional appropriations committee chief of staff who facilitates SRO-7’s budgets and compliance waivers 29 | Dies while exposing records of the projects he approved 29 |
| Seven remaining command personnel | Highest-ranking personnel then present at the provisional emergency command center 32 | Die in a forced armed standoff and authorize the bunker’s self-destruction 32 |
| Wu Guoqiang | Driver and suspected confidential courier whose death exposes the SRO-7 identifier 11 | Suffocates after tracing the code on his car window 11 |
Oversight and Funding
- Internal security: Night Watchman conducts internal purges, loyalty reviews, and vulnerability assessments following infiltration or attacks 30.
- Financial support: Winters approves budget allocations for SRO-7 and related black projects while keeping their funding difficult to trace 29.
- Legal cover: Compliance waivers and official directives provide protection within legal gray areas. Their exposure triggers investigations and disavowals on Capitol Hill 29 30.
Systems and Technology
Operative Training and Deployment
Shepherd trains and deploys frontline agents used to carry out the organization’s will 23.
- His agents are reputed to occupy critical operational nodes and to be ruthless, efficient, and absolutely loyal 23.
- Active and reserve Sheepdogs receive highest-priority orders through encrypted terminals 23.
Encrypted Communications
SRO-7 maintains concealed network infrastructure capable of surviving the loss of its physical command center 18 36 37.
- An authorization-restricted database node transmits an encrypted packet of less than 1 KB bearing the SRO-7 identifier, then destroys its traces 18.
- Surviving nodes attempt to reconnect, receive instructions, and exchange data through the Delta-7-Theta protocol 37.
- Their access patterns, encryption fingerprints, and routing signatures allow the narrator to identify them despite their attempts to resemble ordinary network noise 37.
Security and Termination Protocols
- Broken Blade: Highest-clearance security protocol at the advanced training base. The narrator makes it classify Carl Ryan as a highest-level intrusion threat and release nerve gas that his clearance cannot override 23.
- Emergency tranquilization nanobots: Standard implants for senior personnel. An erroneous command drives Lina Adler’s implants beyond their safe dosage, causing cardiac arrest 31.
- Omega-level self-destruct: Final protocol at the provisional command center. The narrator forces all seven personnel present to authorize it unanimously 32.
History
Exposure of the Identifier
The narrator first uncovers SRO-7 by targeting Wu Guoqiang, suspected of carrying confidential information for the mysterious authority behind Liu Jianming. Under a Death Note instruction, Wu suffocates and traces SRO-7 in the condensation on his car window. Although the incident is quickly suppressed, the identifier reaches a small circle of insiders 11.
Mentor responds within half an hour with a furious call. His electronic disguise briefly fails, revealing a middle-aged man’s natural voice and intense fear over the disclosure. The narrator treats this reaction as evidence that the code touches a secret more consequential than the corruption already uncovered 11 12.
To redirect suspicion, the narrator forces Zhang Zhiyuan to leave a fabricated suicide note accepting responsibility for Wu’s murder and the code leak. Mentor recognizes flaws in the forgery but accepts the cleanup 12.
Return Through the Network
Following the Gatekeeper’s destruction and Shao Guoping’s fatal server-room meltdown, a hidden database node briefly uploads an encrypted SRO-7 packet. The narrator interprets it as Mentor reestablishing contact through a less exposed channel 17 18 19.
The narrator answers by killing Katherine Rain, Insight Seer’s chief analyst, and crashing the company’s software worldwide. Mentor’s response classifies the resulting volatility as 3.7 sigma with a controllable spillover range, showing that he is still attempting to model the attacks 19.
Attacks on Core Personnel
The narrator next targets Shepherd, making SRO-7’s own security system kill its chief instructor. Ryan’s terminal simultaneously distributes his identity, cleanup-mission records, and a directive declaring that loyalty must be redefined. The attack ends Mentor’s silence and prompts a direct video-call request 23.
Archibald Winters’s death then exposes SRO-7’s budget allocations and compliance waivers. The resulting political backlash deprives the organization of funding protection and legitimacy, while Mentor issues a recalibration notification 29 30.
Before recovery can proceed, the narrator destroys Night Watchman through a forced internal massacre and leaks its review records and surveillance footage. Lina Adler’s subsequent death exploits an old SRO-7 system and disguises the command’s source as the organization’s current security department 30 31.
Command Center Destruction
With the organization destabilized by lost support, internal suspicion, and a power vacuum, the narrator targets the seven personnel on duty at its provisional command center. The Death Note forces them into a fatal armed standoff and makes the console register unanimous approval for omega-level self-destruction 32.
The bunker explodes, while public reporting describes the disturbance as a suspected minor earthquake. Mentor reaches the narrator’s room immediately afterward and confronts them with his revolver; he is subsequently killed with the Death Note 32 33 34 35.
Surviving Remnants
The destruction does not eliminate the entire organization. The narrator recognizes that SRO-7’s upper management, funding sources, and international connections remain, and later encounters its identifier in a brief encrypted pop-up 35 36.
Monitoring reveals surviving nodes attempting to reconnect. The narrator targets operators using Delta-7-Theta, causing their hardware to overload and catch fire as the signals disappear. Ryuk warns that this attack has disturbed the “true master” deeper within the network 37 38.
External Relationships
- Kira / the narrator — Principal adversary who exposes SRO-7, attacks its personnel and support structure, destroys its provisional command center, and pursues surviving nodes 11 23 29 30 31 32 37.
- Deep Nest / the “true master” — Hidden power behind the conflict. Ryuk distinguishes it from Mentor and SRO-7’s remnants; the narrator comes to regard SRO-7 as a tool rather than the ultimate authority 37 38 39.
- Global Research and Defense Initiative for Supernatural Phenomena (GRI) — Multinational organization employing numerous former SRO-7 personnel alongside recruits from similar agencies. It conceals, contains, and exploits supernatural phenomena while serving as a bridge between worldly power and the Deep Nest 42.
