(The previous chapter has now been completed.) Only after hearing Yun Ruyi say this did Lin Muyao visibly breathe a sigh of relief, though she was still clearly uneasy.
She had just lost her closest relatives. Neither of the two had been any good, but they had been Lin Muyao's entire connection to the world.
Yun Ruyi's comfort had eased her distress a little. But if Yun Ruyi, whom she now regarded as her only companion, also left her at this moment...
Yun Ruyi pondered for a moment, then suddenly took a brocade pouch embroidered with auspicious cloud patterns from her sleeve.
"Why don't you come with me?"
"It will be a little dangerous, though..."
"Yay!" Before Yun Ruyi could finish, Lin Muyao had already agreed at lightning speed.
Yun Ruyi laughed despite herself. "Then let's go together."
"Make sure you keep this safe, close to your body. It will protect you." She handed the brocade pouch to Lin Muyao.
"Mm-hmm!" Lin Muyao nodded like she was pounding garlic.
Only after readily agreeing did Lin Muyao actually remember to ask:
"Goddess, where are you going? Back to where you came from?"
Yun Ruyi shook her head gently and raised her eyes toward the distance. There was nothing beyond the yellow sands, yet her gaze passed over mountains and rivers, beyond the Human World, through layer after layer of spatial barriers invisible to ordinary people.
At last, it settled on the deathly still, dark expanse of the Netherworld Domain.
There, a seemingly endless Nether River flowed slowly between the life and death of all worlds.
A breeze stirred Yun Ruyi's robes, and her voice was as soft as a sigh.
"Let's hope it doesn't turn into the worst possible outcome."
