After a pause, Yongde edged half a step closer. His smile gave way to a face full of concern, and he lowered his voice.
"Your Majesty, holy monk, word has reached the palace as well. They will likely send people to listen!"
He rubbed his hands, his tone growing anxious. "Your Majesty, might you wait here for now? If you show yourself now, there will be many people and loose tongues at the assembly. This humble official fears someone may seek to harm you!"
