The words had barely left his mouth.

The young man of the Li clan suddenly raised his hand toward the tattoo covering half his face and slammed three punches into it, each heavier and fiercer than the last.

"Pff!"

The young man's lips parted slightly. Wisps of white flame spurted from all seven openings in his head, gathering into a fist-sized ball of fire.

The fireball spun once and gave a clear, melodious cry. Swelling wildly in the wind, it transformed into a white firebird a little over a foot long. It flew up and down around the young man, its lively eyes making it look like a truly living creature.

The young man himself held his spear horizontally in one hand, his eyes tightly shut. He stood motionless as a corpse, while the firebird tattoo on his cheek vanished eerily.

"Divine Soul Spirit Command! Impossible!"

At the sight, Dwarf sprang up like a feral cat with its fur standing on end. Traces of fear even crept into his expression of disbelief.

He suddenly shouted and tossed the pouch in his hand high into the air. Streams of black vapor spewed from it, forming layer upon layer of shields before him. At the same time, he beckoned with his other hand.

The distant golden ring that the spear had knocked away began to hum, then whistled back through the air toward the motionless young man.

At the same moment, the golden ring in Wang Yu's hand suddenly blazed with light. The Spirit Inscriptions on its surface swelled wildly, releasing an immense force that wrenched his five fingers apart. It shot free, also hurtling toward the young man of the Li clan.

"Whoosh!"

Without a second thought, Wang Yu swung his arm and hurled his saber with all his strength, sending it streaking away as a flash of cold light.

"Clang!"

With the speed of thunder striking before one could cover one's ears, the cold flash slammed into the flying golden ring with a clear metallic clang.

Their lights intertwined, and both fell from the air. The golden glow of one had dimmed drastically, while the blade of the other was covered in cracks.

Dwarf, who had been forming hand seals to cast a spell, suddenly changed expression, a look of pain flashing across his face.

A flat, mechanical voice suddenly sounded in Wang Yu's mind.

"Mental Power expenditure approaching safety threshold. The system will forcibly exit Overclocked Synchronization Mode in ten seconds... ten, nine, eight..."

No! Exit Overclocking mode!

Wang Yu's expression changed drastically, and he abruptly stopped moving.

Just then, the white firebird wheeled around and swooped toward the golden ring hurtling at the young man, sweeping its long tail feathers across it.

"Boom!"

The instant the white feathers struck the golden ring, fierce white flames surged out and engulfed it.

In just two breaths, the seemingly indestructible golden ring softened, melted, and fell to the ground as a puddle of molten gold.

Dwarf's eyes nearly popped out at the sight. Without hesitation, he pulled the White Horn from inside his robes, put it to his lips, and blew a mournful "woo-woo."

The giant six-legged Filth-Bone Fish, which had been lying motionless all this time, shook its body and threw Madam Yin off its back. Then its six legs blurred as it charged furiously toward the young man.

Dwarf rapidly formed seals with both hands again and pointed repeatedly at the Black Leather Pouch overhead. The black vapor before him rolled back, swept him up, and carried him skyward into the space behind him.

He had actually turned tail and fled without the slightest hesitation.

With a humming sound, the Black Leather Pouch turned around and raced after him.

"Trying to leave? It's already too late."

Circling in the air, the white firebird watched Dwarf's movements and actually spoke in a human voice-the unmistakable voice of the young man of the Li clan.

The firebird beat its wings hard. A fierce wind swept through the surroundings, and it vanished from the spot.

The next instant, a violent crack rang out through the air.

The white firebird appeared above the giant Filth-Bone Fish charging toward them. With a single swipe of its claws, billowing white flames erupted over the fish. A few miserable cries later, it had turned to ash.

Another violent crack!

Where the black vapor had already fled several dozen yards away, a thick pillar of white fire shot into the sky, staining even the surrounding air an incandescent white.

In the glow of the white flames, the black vapor ignited furiously like gasoline. Dwarf's screams rang out from within, but as the white fire rolled over him, his voice soon fell silent.

"Thud!"

The Black Leather Pouch immediately lost its momentum and dropped from midair, only for the white firebird to appear suddenly and snatch it up.

With a beat of its wings, the firebird flew back the way it had come.

Wang Yu had finally recovered a little from the pain of his depleted Mental Power. Watching everything unfold in the distance, he felt the corners of his eyes twitch.

Dwarf, a Late Qi Refining cultivator and one of the Four Fiends of Misty Mountain, had simply breathed his last!

He had died so easily that it even felt somewhat unreal.

What the hell was a Divine Soul Spirit Command Master? How could one be this terrifying?

After a few flickering movements, the white firebird returned to the young man of the Li clan. It tossed the Black Leather Pouch to the ground, then burst apart with a roar, turning back into wisps of white flame that streamed into his nostrils and the other openings in his head.

The vanished firebird tattoo reappeared on the young man's cheek.

He slowly opened his eyes and unhurriedly slung his spear behind his back. Taking a few steps forward, he picked up the Black Leather Pouch from the ground. Only then did he turn his chilling gaze toward Wang Yu nearby.

Forcing himself to endure the discomfort of his depleted Mental Power and the apprehension in his heart, Wang Yu pressed one hand against the Silver Rapier belt at his waist and stared back at the young man from the Li clan, refusing to show weakness.

"Aren't you afraid I'll kill you with the same secret art?" the young man asked coldly.

"How much Dharma Power do you have left? How much did that attack just consume? If you can unleash that attack again, what good would being afraid do me?" Wang Yu replied with a rigid expression, though in secret his heart had risen into his throat.

At Wang Yu's reply, the young man's eyebrows shot up, and a cold gleam flashed through his eyes. In the end, however, he merely gave a low chuckle.

"Heh, you've got nerve. Remember this: my name is Li Fengquan. Since you've seen me use Divine Soul Spirit Command, the next time we meet will be the day I take your life."

The moment he finished speaking, he turned and left without hesitation. After a few bounding leaps, he vanished into the woods.

Wang Yu watched the direction in which the young man had disappeared, maintaining the same cool expression. Only after a full tea-brewing interval did he drop onto his backside.

"That scared me to death! That freak really left, right?" He kept patting his chest, his face filled with the look of someone scared out of his wits.

The next moment, Wang Yu remembered something else. He hurriedly stood and picked up the iron essence saber nearby. His brow furrowed at the cracks covering its blade, but he still tucked it into his belt.

Then, with a few swift steps, he approached Madam Yin, who still lay facedown, her life or death uncertain. He carefully turned her over, intending to examine her injuries.

But the moment he saw Madam Yin's face clearly, he froze like a wooden chicken, utterly speechless!

The clothes she wore were still Madam Yin's colorful garments.

The wooden hairpin in her gray-white bun was still Madam Yin's black wooden hairpin.

The sallow skin at her neck was still Madam Yin's aged skin.

But her face had been replaced by one as beautiful as a celestial maiden's, its skin like creamy jade.

On her oval face, her eyes were gently closed beneath long lashes. With her exquisite nose and small mouth, her features were so delicate they hardly seemed of this world.
